Wallace Worsley
Wallace A. Worsley, Sr. (December 8, 1878 – March 26, 1944) was an American stage actor who became a film director in the silent era. During his career, Worsley directed 29 films and acted in 7 films. He directed several motion pictures starring Lon Chaney Sr., and his professional relationship with the actor was the best Chaney had, second to his partnership with Tod Browning. ''The Hunchback of Notre Dame'' (1923) is one of his best-known works, along with '' The Penalty'' (1920). Worsley's 1922 horror film ''A Blind Bargain'' with Chaney is one of the most sought after lost films. Acting In April 1901 Worsely appeared at the Empire Theatre (41st Street) as Lt. Earl of Hunstanton in a revival of Leo Trevor's comedy ''Brother Officers''. It ran for eight performances. He followed this immediately with ''Diplomacy'', which ran for about six weeks. William Anthony McGuire (July 9, 1881 – September 16, 1940) was an American playwright, theatre director, and producer and screenwriter, including ''The Kid From Spain'' (1932) starring Eddie Cantor. McGuire earned an Oscar nomination for the 1936 film ''The Great Ziegfeld'', the Best Picture Oscar winner of 1936. Born in Chicago, Illinois, McGuire made his Broadway debut in 1910 as author of the play ''The Heights''. Richard Rosson (April 4, 1893 – May 31, 1953) was an American film director and actor. As an actor, he was known for the nearly 100 films he was in during the silent era. As a director, he directed the logging sequences in the 1936 film '' Come and Get It''. Career Rosson's first directorial effort was the 1926 American black and white silent comedy film ''Fine Manners'', initially directed by Lewis Milestone for Famous Players-Lasky/Paramount Pictures. After an argument with actress Gloria Swanson, Milestone walked off the set, leaving the film to be completed by Rosson, who had picked up directorial tricks while working as an assistant director to Allan Dwan. The success of the film, being Rosson's first directorial effort since he co-directed ''Her Father's Keeper'' in 1917 with his brother Arthur Rosson, won him a long-term contract with Famous Players-Lasky.
