''Play for Today'' is the eighth studio album by English rock band The Searchers and the last band's album to feature lead singer Mike Pender. LP was released both in the UK and the US with completely different cover art and slightly divergent track listing. Album contained songs originally performed by John Fogerty ("Almost Saturday Night"), Big Star ("September Gurls") or Fats Domino ("Sick and Tired"). Session musicians on the album included Martin Hughes on drums and keyboard player Mick Weaver. The Searchers (band)
The Searchers were an English Merseybeat group who emerged during the British Invasion of the 1960s. The band's hits include a remake of the Drifters' 1961 hit, "Sweets for My Sweet"; " Sugar and Spice" (written by their producer Tony Hatch); remakes of Jackie DeShannon's " Needles and Pins" and "When You Walk in the Room"; a cover of the Orlons' "Don't Throw Your Love Away"; and a cover of the Clovers' " Love Potion No. 9". With the Swinging Blue Jeans, the Searchers tied for being the second group from Liverpool, after the Beatles, to have a hit in the US when their "Needles and Pins" and the Swinging Blue Jeans' "Hippy Hippy Shake" both reached the Hot 100 on 7 March 1964. John Charles Lodge (born 20 July 1945) is an English musician, best known as bass guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter of the longstanding rock band the Moody Blues. He has also worked as a record producer and has collaborated with other musicians outside the band. In 2018, Lodge was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Moody Blues. ''Magical Mystery Tour'' is a record by the English rock band the Beatles that was released as a double EP in the United Kingdom and an LP in the United States. It includes the soundtrack to the 1967 television film of the same name. The EP was issued in the UK on 8 December 1967 on the Parlophone label, while the Capitol Records LP release in the US and Canada occurred on 27 November and features an additional five songs that were originally released as singles that year. John Van Hamersveld
John Van Hamersveld (born September 1, 1941, Baltimore, Maryland, United States) is an American graphic artist and illustrator who designed record jackets for pop and psychedelic bands from the 1960s onward. Among the 300 albums are the covers of ''Magical Mystery Tour'' by the Beatles, ''Crown of Creation'' by Jefferson Airplane, ''Exile on Main Street'' by the Rolling Stones, and '' Hotter Than Hell'' by Kiss. His first major assignment, in 1963, was designing the poster for the surf film ''The Endless Summer'', after which he served as Capitol Records' head of design from 1965 to 1968. During that time, he worked on the artwork for albums by Capitol artists such as the Beatles and the Beach Boys. John David (born John David Williams; 19 January 1946, in Cardiff, South Wales) is a Welsh bassist and songwriter known equally for his work with Dave Edmunds and for his songwriting. Biography He began his musical career playing drums in his father's dance band Avalon. By 1968 he was playing bass guitar and sang backing vocals in Edmunds' first major group, Love Sculpture, best remembered for their 1968 top ten hit single "Sabre Dance". At that time he used the name John Williams. After Love Sculpture split in 1970 he concentrated on studio and session work, songwriting and engineering, as well as collaborating with Edmunds on his number one single "I Hear You Knocking", playing bass, piano, and percussion. "Almost Saturday Night" is a song written by John Fogerty and first released on his 1975 album ''John Fogerty''. It was released as a single and reached No. 78. It has been covered by a number of artists, including Dave Edmunds, who also released it as a single to more success, Gene Clark, Ricky Nelson, The Searchers, The Georgia Satellites and Ned LeDoux. The song describes the hero looking out the window and getting excited about the approaching weekend. Will Birch (born 12 September 1948) is an English people, English music journalist, songwriter, record producer and drummer. Career Birch was born in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England. He played drums in various musical ensemble, bands in the Southend-on-Sea, Southend area before helping to form The Kursaal Flyers in 1973. Featuring singing, singer Paul Shuttleworth, the Flyers developed a strong live reputation on London's Pub rock (United Kingdom), pub rock scene in the mid-1970s, and released several albums. Their biggest commercial success came with the uncharacteristic Mike Batt record producer, produced hit single, "Little Does She Know", in 1976, which Birch co-wrote. Christophe Kenner (December 25, 1929 – January 25, 1976) was an American, New Orleans-based Rhythm and blues, R&B singer and songwriter, best known for two hit singles in the early 1960s, "I Like It Like That (Chris Kenner song), I Like It Like That" and "Land of a Thousand Dances, Land of 1000 Dances", which became staples in the repertoires of many other musicians. William Alexander Chilton (December 28, 1950 – March 17, 2010) was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer best known as the lead singer of the Box Tops and Big Star.
