Play Ball (film)
''Play Ball'' is a 1937 animated short film by Terrytoons. It is the penultimate film featuring Kiko the Kangaroo. In reissue prints, the film goes by its alternate title ''Kiko at the Bat!'' Plot Kiko is a baseball player who leads a team of joeys at the baseball diamond. Their opponents are a team consists of various other animals. The other team is first to bat. Their first batter, an ostrich, is out immediately after failing to hit the ball three times in a row. Their second batter who is a spider monkey, however, manages to score a home run on first hit. Their third batter, a pig, also scores a point on first attempt. Their fourth batter, an elephant, hits the ball so hard and sends it a great distance but Kiko's team manages to catch it, thus preventing a third score. Finally Kiko's team gets to bat. One of the joeys is first in being the batter, and misses on first attempt. But that joey manages to hit the ball on second attempt despite a sneaky trick from the spider monke ... George Gordon (animator)
George Gordon (September 2, 1906 – May 24, 1986) was an American film and TV animator and director of animated productions. Starting in film in 1930, he moved to TV in its early days. Gordon is credited with hundreds of cartoons from 1937 through 1983. Biography Gordon began working with animation in 1930 at the Terrytoons Studio as an animator on the ''Jesse and James'' and ''Farmer Al Falfa'' Cartoons. In 1937, Gordon left Terrytoons for the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio to work as an animator. During his career at MGM, he directed ''Barney Bear'' shorts and animated for ''Tom and Jerry''. Terrytoons Shorts
Terrytoons was an American animation studio in New Rochelle, New York, that produced animated cartoons for theatrical release from 1929 to 1973 (and briefly returned between 1987 and 1996 for television in name only). Terrytoons was founded by Paul Terry (cartoonist), Paul Terry, Frank Moser (artist), Frank Moser, and Joseph Coffman, and operated out of the 271 North Avenue, "K" Building in downtown New Rochelle. The studio created many cartoon characters including Fanny Zilch, Mighty Mouse, Heckle and Jeckle, Gandy Goose, Sourpuss, Dinky Duck, Little Roquefort, the Terry Bears, Dimwit, and Luno the White Stallion, Luno; Terry's pre-existing character Farmer Al Falfa was also featured often in the series.
