Steps (group)
Steps are a British dance-pop group consisting of Lee Latchford-Evans, Claire Richards, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer and Ian "H" Watkins. Steps were formed in May 1997 and achieved a series of charting singles between 1997 and 2001 including two number-one singles in the UK (one a double A-side), two number-one albums in the UK, 14 consecutive top 5 singles in the UK and a string of hits throughout Europe. The group has sold over 22 million records worldwide in addition to acquiring a BRIT Award nomination in 1999 for Best Newcomer while supporting Britney Spears on tour the same year. When Richards and Watkins departed to form a recording duo, the group disbanded on 26 December 2001. Their penultimate single reached number five in the UK charts while their final album of greatest hits, ''Gold'' (2001), was the group's second number-one album in the UK. After The Love Has Gone (Steps Song)
"After the Love Has Gone" is a song by Steps, released as their seventh single, and the third from their second album ''Steptacular''. The track continues the group's pop sound but has clear Asian musical influences. Claire Richards provides lead vocals. Critical reception AllMusic editor Jon O'Brien described the song as "melancholic dance-pop". Scottish newspaper ''Aberdeen Evening Express'' stated that it "has all the trademark Steps piano bits", noting that it "does sound a bit too much" like "Love's Got a Hold on My Heart". Can't Stop the Pop said that the most distinctive element of the track is that it's "proudly dressed up as an oriental number." They also complimented its "beautiful melancholy" lyrics. ''Sunday Mirror'' commented, "Net more ABBA sound-aliking from the Steps crew. This dance routine's a bit tricky though." Chart performance The song spent 11 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number five. It fell out of the top 75 after nine weeks but rose bac ...

Platinum Jubilee Of Elizabeth II
The Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II was the international celebration in 2022 marking the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 February 1952, the first British monarch to ever celebrate one. In the United Kingdom, there was an extra bank holiday on 3 June and the usual spring bank holiday was moved from the end of May to 2 June to create the four-day Platinum Jubilee Central Weekend from Thursday, 2 June, to Sunday, 5 June. It was the first time that any monarch in British history celebrated a platinum jubilee, as is the case in the histories of the other Commonwealth realms. Initiatives to commemorate the jubilee were announced by the governments of many realms—including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and the United Kingdom—of territories, such as the Cayman Islands and Gibraltar, and celebrations were also held in other Commonwealth member states, like the Gambia, Malaysia, Malta, Pakistan, and Samoa. Leaders from across the wo ...

Tragedy (Bee Gees Song)
"Tragedy" is a song released by the Bee Gees, written by Barry, Robin & Maurice Gibb, included on their 1979 album ''Spirits Having Flown''. The single reached number one in the UK in February 1979 and repeated the feat the following month on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100. In 1998, it was successfully covered by British pop group Steps, whose version also reached number one in the UK. Origin Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb wrote this song and "Too Much Heaven" in an afternoon off from making the '' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'' movie, in which they were starring. In the same evening, they wrote " Shadow Dancing", which was performed by Andy Gibb (and reached number one in the US). Though not originally in '' Saturday Night Fever'', it has subsequently been added to the musical score of the West End version of the movie-musical. The song knocked "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor off the top spot in the US for two weeks before that song again returned to number one f ...

Heartbreak In This City
"Heartbreak in This City" is a song recorded by British group Steps from their sixth studio album, ''What the Future Holds'' (2020). A single mix was released with singer and television personality Michelle Visage in February 2021 as the lead single from their seventh studio album, ''What the Future Holds Pt. 2'' (2021). The single peaked at number 15 on UK Download chart. Background and release Speaking about the collaboration, Claire Richards said to ''Retro Pop'' "We did an Insta Live with Michelle in November as part of our promotion and when we put the phone down, our manager came up with the idea and asked her. To me, it couldn't be more perfect. I think if we're going to do it with anybody, then she is actually the perfect choice. She's even more camp than we are – which is a feat in itself!" Richards added, "I'm not sure if it was planned to be the next single anyway, but when Adam teps' managerhad the idea, he literally said, 'We should get Michelle to do 'Heartbreak ...

Better Best Forgotten
"Better Best Forgotten" is a song by British pop group Steps, released on 8 March 1999. It was the final single to be taken from their debut album, ''Step One''. The song became the group's fourth top-10 hit in the UK, peaking at number two on the UK Singles Chart, and it also reached the top 20 in Ireland and the Flanders region of Belgium. A stripped back ballad version of the track was performed during the 2012 Christmas with Steps tour. "Better Best Forgotten" features all three girls singing a verse each with the boys joining in for the choruses. Critical reception Can't Stop the Pop wrote that this was the song "most strikingly consistent" with the "ABBA-on-speed" vision, that Pete Waterman strove to achieve with the group. They added that Faye, Lisa and Claire "all bring such drama" to the track, "they sing as though their life depends on it, and that – among many other things – is what worked so well about Steps." Scottish newspaper '' Daily Record'' noted that the ...

When I Said Goodbye / Summer Of Love
"When I Said Goodbye" / "Summer of Love" is a double A-side single released by British pop music group Steps. "When I Said Goodbye" is taken from their second studio album, '' Steptacular'' (1999), while "Summer of Love" was a previously unavailable track, later included on their third album, '' Buzz'' (2000). Following its release on 3 July 2000, the double A-side peaked at number five in the United Kingdom and number 18 in Ireland. Critical reception Can't Stop the Pop described "Summer of Love" as "an obvious nod" to the Latin-pop craze which dominated the charts at the time. They added that "everything about this track is ramped up to the max" and "moves with such pace that you’d scarcely believe it’s almost four minutes long because it zips by in a flash." Chart performance "When I Said Goodbye" / "Summer of Love" peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart and spent 11 weeks in the top 75, two of which were spent in the top 10. It is their earliest single release (a ...

Love's Got A Hold On My Heart
"Love's Got a Hold on My Heart" is a song by British pop music group Steps. It was released as the lead single from the band's second album, ''Steptacular'' (1999). The song features Faye Tozer and Claire Richards on lead vocals. The single peaked at number two in the United Kingdom and became a top-20 hit in Finland, Flanders, Ireland, and New Zealand. Critical reception Can't Stop the Pop stated that "the one thing that immediately jumps out with this single – from that first keyboard whizz in the intro – is how summery it sounds. The track is not without a trademark hint of melodrama, but on the whole, it’s a much lighter production which exudes sunshine and warmth." They added that the chorus is "deceptively – and enduringly – catchy." Scottish newspaper '' Daily Record'' said it is "their best tune yet. A Europop sound, ABBA-tinged melody and they even supply the dance moves on the CD box". They also wrote, "This song sounds like the band looks - cheesy. The tune ...
