''Platinum Blonde'' is the self-titled debut EP by Platinum Blonde released in 1983. The EP was only released on vinyl and cassette and is also known as ''Six Track Attack''. It reached a high of #39 on the Canadian charts in early 1984, before being subsequently re-released with four additional tracks as the full-length '' Standing in the Dark'' album in 1984. Background and writing In 1983, following the formation of their new band, Platinum Blonde recorded a 7-song demo tape in a friend's living room and sent it to English producer David Tickle who expressed immediate interest in the project. Platinum Blonde (band)
Platinum Blonde, known briefly as The Blondes, is a Canadian rock band that formed in Toronto, Ontario in 1979. Vocalist Mark Holmes has been the only consistent member of the band since its inception. They are an image conscious band that took advantage of the advent of the music video. In his 2016 book, ''Is This Live?: Inside the Wild Early Years of MuchMusic: The Nation's Music Station'', Canadian songwriter and former MuchMusic VJ, Christopher Ward said of the band: "If ever there was a Canadian band that was tailor-made for the video era, it was Platinum Blonde." Metalworks Studios is a music recording studio in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1978 by Gil Moore of the Canadian rock group, Triumph. Over a span of 40 years, Metalworks has been the recipient of Canadian Music Week's 'Studio of the Year' 17 times. Since 1978, Metalworks Studios has expanded into a six studio facility offering in-house tracking, mixing and mastering, as well as video editing and DVD authoring. David Tickle
David Tickle (born 6 September 1959) is a British record producer and engineer. As a producer, he is noted for his work with Split Enz, and in Canada, for his mid-1980s work with Red Rider, Platinum Blonde and Gowan. He later produced Joe Cocker, The Divinyls "I Touch Myself", and was signed to produce the international hit for 4 Non Blondes " What's Up?". As an engineer or mixer, Tickle worked on best-selling albums by Blondie and U2. As a mixing engineer, he worked on several hit 1980s releases by Prince. Early career Tickle was born on 6 September 1959 in Guildford, Surrey, the only son of a university professor father and an artistic mother. By his own account, he was mixing Red Buddha concerts at the age of 16, and mixed three singles for pop-rock quartet Liverpool Express, which achieved modest success on British charts in 1976 and 1977. ''Standing in the Dark'' is the debut studio album by Platinum Blonde. Released by Columbia/CBS Records Canada in 1983, it expanded on the band's original six-track EP. With the addition of four new tracks ("Standing in the Dark", "Sad Sad Rain", "Cast A Shadow", and "Leaders In Danger"), the album garnered the band their first taste of attention after going triple platinum in Canada. It reached a high of 23 on the Canadian charts. Two of the music videos for this album, "Standing in the Dark" and "It Doesn't Really Matter", were nominated for Juno Awards for Video of the Year in 1984. Mark Holmes (born July 26, 1960) is a British-Canadian musician. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the Canadian rock band Platinum Blonde (band), Platinum Blonde. He also co-founded the Mod Club Theatre, an entertainment venue in Toronto that operated from 2002 to 2020. Early life Mark Holmes emigrated from Mansfield, England to Canada in 1977. As a youth he had hopes of becoming a professional soccer player. Once in Toronto, he attended commercial art college, Apprenticeship, apprenticed in hairdressing and played in bands on the side. Career In 1979, Holmes, along with musicians Joey Ciotti and Ray Bailie, formed Platinum Blonde (band), Platinum Blonde, a Punk rock, punk and New wave music, new wave band.
