Planoise () is an urban area in the western part of Besançon, France, built in the 1960s between the hill of Planoise and the district of Hauts-de-Chazal. It is the most populous district of Besançon, with 21,000 inhabitants (17% of the total inhabitants). Its inhabitants are called ''Planoisiens'' and ''Planoisiennes''. The area is constantly changing and developing. Despite difficult economic and social conditions, Planoise has become a commercial crossroads and a multicultural sector; the area is home to people from over 50 different cultural origins. It is a highly urbanized area (8,700 inhabitants per square kilometer) with few monuments or sites of interest, but the area contains notable buildings like the Departmental archives of Doubs and the Statue of Diversity. A water tower is an elevated structure supporting a water tank constructed at a height sufficient to pressurize a water distribution system, distribution system for potable water, and to provide emergency storage for fire protection. Fort Of Planoise
The fort of Planoise is a fortification located on the summit of the hill of Planoise, in Besançon (Franche-Comté, France). Although its location was extremely strategic, the fort was not used during either the first or the second World War. History The monument was built in 1877 to 1882, on the summit of the hill of Planoise (at 490m), to defend the city of Besançon. In the 1930s the fort was abandoned, and in 1949 Emmaus homeless charity rented the Planoise fort for offices. Doubs (river)
The Doubs (; frp, Dubs; german: Dub) is a river in far eastern France which strays into western Switzerland. It is a left-bank tributary of the Saône. It rises near Mouthe in the western Jura mountains, at and its mouth is at Verdun-sur-le-Doubs, a village and commune in Saône-et-Loire at about above sea level. It is the tenth-longest river in France. The most populous settlement of the basin lies on its banks, Besançon. Its course includes a small waterfall and a narrow lake. Avanne-Aveney () is a commune in the Doubs department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of eastern France. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Avannais'' or ''Avannaises''. Geography Avanne-Aveney is located to the immediate south-west of Besançon with the town of Avanne joined to the Besançon urban area. The smaller town of Aveney is on the opposite bank of the river linked by a bridge. Access to the commune is by the D106 from Besançon which continues west to Grandfontaine. Route nationale N83 passes through the south-east of the commune from Beure in the north-east to Samson in the south. The D367 links Avanne to Aveney via a bridge across the river.
