Planica 1987
Planica 1987 was a two day ski flying competition part of 1986/87 World Cup season, held from 14 to 15 March 1987 in Planica, SR Slovenia, Yugoslavia. Circa 100,000 people in total has gathered in three days. Planica
Planica () is an Alpine valley in northwestern Slovenia, extending south from the border village of Rateče, not far from another well-known ski resort, Kranjska Gora. Further south, the valley extends into the Tamar Valley, a popular hiking destination in Triglav National Park. Planica is famous for ski jumping. The first ski jumping hill was constructed before 1930 at the slope of Mount Ponca. In 1933, Ivan Rožman constructed a larger hill, known as the Bloudek Giant (''Bloudkova velikanka'') after Stanko Bloudek, which later gave rise to ski flying. The venue was completed in 1934. The first ski jump over in history was achieved at the hill in 1936 by Sepp Bradl. At the time, it was the biggest jumping hill in the world. Bloudkova Velikanka
Bloudkova velikanka ("Bloudek Giant"), also Bloudek-Rožmanova velikanka, is a large ski jumping hill in Planica, Slovenia, originally opened in 1934. In 2001 the hill collapsed and was completely rebuilt in 2012. A new normal hill (HS102) was also built next to Bloudkova velikanka in 2012, replacing the old K90 hill. A total of ten world records were set at the venue in the 1930s and 1940s. The hill was originally constructed by Ivan Rožman, and was named after Stanko Bloudek. It was later renamed to Bloudek-Rožmanova velikanka in honour of Rožman. A year after opening, Bloudek became the main constructor, improving the hill until his death. Thomas Klauser (born 9 June 1964 in Reit im Winkl) was a West German-German ski jumper who competed from 1979 to 1991. At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, he finished fourth in the individual large hill and sixth in the team large hill events. Ernst Vettori (born 25 June 1964) is an Austrian former ski jumper. Career He won the Four Hills Tournament twice (1985/1986 and 1986/1987). At the 1992 Winter Olympics, he won gold from the normal hill, and silver in the team competition. Vettori won five medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships with gold in the team large hill (1991), silver in the team large hill (1985), and bronzes in individual large hill (1987) and team large hill (1987 and 1993). Jan Boklöv
Jan Mauritz Boklöv (born 14 April 1966) is a Swedish former ski jumper who won the 1988–89 World Cup season. He also dominated the Swedish national championships during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He is best known for popularising the now-ubiquitous V-style in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Kurt Elimä was one of Boklöv's trainers. Boklöv competed in two Winter Olympics, finishing seventh in the team large hill event in Calgary in 1988 and 47th in the individual normal hill in Albertville in 1992. At the 1989 Ski Jumping World Championships in Lahti, he finished fifth in the team large hill and tenth in the individual normal hill events. Hroar Stjernen
Hroar Stjernen (born 11 February 1961) is a Norwegian former ski jumper representing Sprova IL and Trønderhopp. Career He won the silver medal in the team large hill event at the 1987 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf and finished fourth in the individual normal hill at those same championships. Stjernen's lone individual World Cup victory came at Bischofshofen in 1985. He later worked as national team coach for the Norwegian ski jumpers between 1998 and 2002, but was criticized for poor results, resulting in his dismissal in January 2002. This dismissal would have no impact upon the team at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, as the national team went home without a medal for the second straight time at the Olympics. Vasja Bajc (born 19 January 1962) is a Slovenian ski jumping coach and former ski jumper who competed from 1979 to 1988, during which time he represented Yugoslavia. At World Cup level his best individual finishes were fifth in Planica on 21 March 1980 and ninth in Harrachov on 14 January 1984.
