Planet M.U.L.E.
''Planet M.U.L.E.'' is an online multiplayer strategy game by Swedish studio Turborilla. It is a remake of the 1983 video game '' M.U.L.E.'' Gameplay The gameplay of ''Planet M.U.L.E.'' closely follows that of the original '' M.U.L.E.''. Improvements over the original include improved, animated graphics and network play over the Internet. However, in the original game, the different characters had different advantages during gameplay (for example, Packers were better at producing food), whereas in Planet M.U.L.E. there are no advantages to choosing one character type versus another. The game is available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Development The game was initially produced as an unofficial remake, though early on the developers sought and obtained the consent of Melanie Bunten Stark, daughter of ''M.U.L.E.'''s designer Danielle Bunten Berry. Blue Systems is a German IT company. It is most prominent as a major KDE supporter and previous driving force behind Kubuntu with a number of KDE developers working for Blue Systems. According to Blue Systems employee Aurélien Gâteau, "Blue Systems does not have a business model, at least for now". Background Blue Systems was founded by German businessman Clemens Tönnies Jr. He is a son of the deceased Bernd Tönnies who founded meat production heavyweight Tönnies Lebensmittel in 1971. Clemens Tönnies Jr. inherited 25% but left the company by transferring his shares to his brother Robert, who now owns 50% of Tönnies Lebensmittel. The other 50% are owned by Bernd's brother Clemens Tönnies Sr. who is also the chairman of FC Schalke 04's board of directors. Tönnies Lebensmittel generated 4.3 billion Euro revenue in 2011. ''Subtrade: Return to Irata'' is a multiplayer video game developed in 1993 by the German developer Century Interactive. It is a clone of the Atari 8-bit game '' M.U.L.E.'' designed by Dan Bunten and published by Electronic Arts in 1983. ''Subtrade'' was originally written for the Amiga, and later ported to MS-DOS. Gameplay Like ''M.U.L.E.'', the game is about four colonists (players) building up an economy on the planet Irata (Atari spelled backwards). The objective is to become the richest colonist within twelve game turns, while also attempting to improve the overall health of the colony. In contrast to ''M.U.L.E.'', the setting is transferred to a sub-oceanic world. The most notable change in game play is the addition of a fifth choice of how to outfit the labour element. The new type allows the player to build his own labour elements (M.U.L.E.s, or in this case, turtles), so that the player won't have to buy them from the store. Danielle Bunten Berry (February 19, 1949 – July 3, 1998), formerly known as Dan Bunten, was an American game designer and programmer, known for the 1983 game '' M.U.L.E.'', one of the first influential multiplayer video games, and 1984's '' The Seven Cities of Gold''. In 1998, she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Computer Game Developers Association. In 2007, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences chose Berry as the 10th inductee into its Hall of Fame. In 2009, she was chosen by IGN as one of the top 100 game creators of all time. Early life Berry was born in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Little Rock, Arkansas as a junior in high school. She was the oldest of six siblings.
