''Planet End'' is an album by jazz guitarist Larry Coryell that was released in 1975 by Vanguard Records. The album was produced by Daniel Weiss and engineered by David Baker. It was the final recording for Vanguard and reached number 39 on the 1976 Jazz Albums chart. The album consists of tracks recorded in 1974 by the then-current line-up of Coryell's band The Eleventh House (before Danny Trifan was replaced by John Lee on bass); plus two outtakes from the March 1969 sessions that produced the 1970 album, '' Spaces''. Larry Coryell
Larry Coryell (born Lorenz Albert Van DeLinder III; April 2, 1943 – February 19, 2017) was an American jazz guitarist. Early life Larry Coryell was born in Galveston, Texas, United States. He never knew his biological father, a musician. He was raised by his stepfather Gene, a chemical engineer, and his mother Cora, who encouraged him to learn piano when he was four years old. In his teens he switched to guitar. After his family moved to Richland, Washington, he took lessons from a teacher who lent him albums by Les Paul, Johnny Smith, Barney Kessel, and Tal Farlow. When asked what jazz guitar albums influenced him, Coryell cited ''On View at the Five Spot Cafe'' by Kenny Burrell, ''Red Norvo with Strings'', and ''The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery''. Coryell is accompanied by John McLaughlin on guitar, Chick Corea on electric piano, Miroslav Vitouš on bass, and Billy Cobham on drums. William Emanuel Cobham Jr. (born May 16, 1944) is a Panamanian Americans, Panamanian–American jazz drummer who came to prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s with trumpeter Miles Davis and then with the Mahavishnu Orchestra. He was inducted into the ''Modern Drummer'' Hall of Fame in 1987 and the ''Classic Drummer'' Hall of Fame in 2013. John McLaughlin (born 4 January 1942), frequently known as Mahavishnu John, is an English guitarist, bandleader, and composer. Larry Young (also known as Khalid Yasin ''Abdul Aziz October 7, 1940 – March 30, 1978) was an American jazz organist and occasional pianist. Young's early work was strongly influenced by the soul jazz of Jimmy Smith, but he later pioneered a more experimental, modal approach to the Hammond B-3. Alphonse Lee Mouzon (November 21, 1948 – December 25, 2016) was an American jazz fusion drummer and the owner of Tenacious Records, a label that primarily released Mouzon's recordings. He was a composer, arranger, producer, and actor. He gained popularity in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Eleventh House was a jazz fusion group of the 1970s, led by the guitarist Larry Coryell. The band was formed in 1972 and disbanded in 1975.
