Plamena Mangova
Plamena Mangova (born in Pleven, Bulgaria, 1980) is a classical pianist. Mangova studied with Marina Kapatsinskaya at the State Music Academy in Sofia. She went on to study with Dmitri Bashkirov at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, and with Abdel Rahman El Bacha at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. At 18, she was awarded the XIV Paloma O'Shea Santander International Piano Competition's third prize. Nine years later she took part at the XVI Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, where she was second to Anna Vinnitskaya. Mangova has been active as a concert pianist at an international level since 2000, when she debuted at Paris' Théâtre du Châtelet. Her first CD, a Dmitri Shostakovich monographic, was awarded a Diapason d'Or. Alexander Kniazev
Alexandre Alexandrovitch Kniazev (russian: Александр Александрович Князев) (born 26 April 1961 in Moscow) is a Russian cellist and organist. He was named best musician of the year in Russia in 1999. Kniazev studied music at Moscow Conservatory. He entered the cello class of Alexander Fedorchenko and in the organ class of G. Kozlova. After a solid musical formation, he won first prizes in cello at the Vilnius competition, at that of G. Cassado, the International Chamber Music Competition in Trapini, and Pretoria. He also won the third prize of the International Tchaikovsky Competition of Moscow. He then performed all over the world and realized many records, two of which were awarded. Discography *J. Piano Quintet (Shostakovich)
The Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 57 by Dmitri Shostakovich is one of his best-known chamber works. Like most piano quintets, it is written for piano and string quartet (two violins, viola and cello). Shostakovich began work on the piece in the summer of 1940 and completed it on September 14. It was written for the Beethoven Quartet, as were most of his string quartets, and premiered by them with Shostakovich himself at the piano on November 23, 1940 at the Moscow Conservatory, to great success. In 1941, it was awarded the Stalin Prize. A typical performance of the quintet runs slightly more than 30 minutes.
