Plainfield is a census-designated place (CDP) in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 399 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Harrisburg–Carlisle metropolitan statistical area. Geography Plainfield is located in the eastern part of West Pennsboro Township at (40.202023, -77.286621), along Pennsylvania Route 641 (Main Street), which leads east to the center of Carlisle, the county seat, and west to Newville. The Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) passes along the northern edge of the CDP, but the nearest exit is to the east, on the other side of Carlisle. Northampton County is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 312,951. Its county seat is Easton. The county was formed in 1752 from parts of Bucks County. Its namesake was Northamptonshire, England. The county seat of Easton was named for the country house Easton Neston in that shire. Northampton County and Lehigh County to its west combine to form the eastern Pennsylvania region known as the Lehigh Valley, and both counties are included in the Philadelphia media market, the nation's fourth largest media market. Pennsylvania Route 641 (PA 641) is a state route located in Central Pennsylvania in the United States. The route is long and runs from U.S. Route 522 (US 522) near Shade Gap east to US 11/US 15 in Camp Hill. PA 641 heads east from Shade Gap in Huntingdon County and immediately crosses PA 35 before it heads across Tuscarora Mountain into Franklin County. The route intersects PA 75 in Spring Run before it crosses Kittatinny and Blue mountains and reaches a junction with PA 997 in Roxbury. PA 641 heads into the agricultural Cumberland Valley and enters Cumberland County, where it intersects PA 696 in Newburg and PA 233 in Newville before reaching Carlisle.
