Plain Jane (film)
"Plain Jane" is a 1966 Australian TV movie. It stars Elspeth Ballantyne and was produced by Oscar Whitbread for the ABC. "Plain Jane" aired on 5 January 1966 in Sydney and Melbourne, and on 25 May 1966 in Brisbane. It was based on a TV play which had been performed by the BBC in 1963. Plot A man, Martin (Martin Magee), gets cold feet on the evening of his wedding to Kathleen. His friends give him advice, including a married couple, Adrian and Myrtle, but he is forced to make his own decision. Oscar Whitbread
Oscar Ralph Whitbread (26 November 1929 – 16 May 2016) was an English-Australian producer who worked extensively in television. He moved to Australia in the late 1940s. Whitbread started his career at the ABC in 1956, where he served as the Head of Drama, before switching to the same position with the Seven Network. He was responsible for numerous successful series including '' Bellbird'', ''The Flying Doctors'' and the miniseries ''Power Without Glory''. Whitbread was the senior executive producer at Crawford Productions and also worked in England for the BBC, Thames Television, Granada Television and London Weekend Television. During the 1970s, he worked as a lecturer in theatre media studies, at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, New South Wales. Personal life Whitbread was married to Corinne Kerby. Sydney Leicester Conabere (8 July 191815 July 2008) was an Australian actor. He was notable for his work in theatre, film and television drama in a career spanning more than fifty years.
