Plagia, Paionia
Plagia (, before 1928: ''Karasinan'') is a village in the Kilkis regional unit of Greece. It is situated in the municipal unit of Axioupoli, in the Paionia municipality, within the Kilkis region of Central Macedonia. The terrain around Plagia is hilly to the southwest, but to the northeast it is flat. The highest point nearby is 1,627 metres above sea level, 14.5 km southwest of Plagia. Around Plagia it is quite sparsely populated, with 38 inhabitants per square kilometre. The nearest major community is Axioupoli, 11.2 km south of Plagia. In the surroundings around Plagia, mainly sparse and often low-growing subtropical forest grows. The climate in the area is temperate. Average annual temperature in the neighbourhood is 15 °C . Central Macedonia
Central Macedonia ( el, Κεντρική Μακεδονία, Kentrikí Makedonía, ) is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece, consisting of the central part of the geographical and historical region of Macedonia. With a population of almost 1.8 million, it is the second most populous in Greece after Attica. Kilkis ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Κιλκίς) is one of the regional units of Greece, in the geographic region of Macedonia. It is part of the region of Central Macedonia. Its capital is the city of Kilkis. Geography The geography of the regional unit of Kilkis is characterized by the wide and flat Axios river valley in the westcentral part, and mountain ranges on its western and northeastern edges. The mountain range in the west, on the border with Pella regional unit, is Mount Paiko (highest peak ). In the north, the Kerkini range straddles the border with North Macedonia. Paionia ( el, Παιονία, ) is a municipality in the Kilkis regional unit of Central Macedonia, Greece. The seat of the municipality is the town Polykastro. The municipality is named after the ancient region of Paeonia. It has an area of 919.276 km2. Axioupoli
Axioupoli ( el, Αξιούπολη), known until 1927 as Boymitsa (Боймица, Μποέμιτσα), is a small town and a former municipality in the former Paionia Province of Kilkis regional unit, Greek Macedonia. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Paionia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 284.406 km2. In 2011 the town had a population of 2,897, and the municipal unit 5,619. Name Its ancient name was Atalanti and it was established in prehistoric times."History of Macedonia I" N. G. L. Hammond, 1972 Atalanti was conquered by Bottieans who came into the area in the 12th century BC.
