Cecilio Plá y Gallardo (22 November 1860 – 4 August 1934) was a Spanish painter and illustrator. Biography Cecilio Plá was born in Valencia. As a child, he studied music at the , in accordance with the wishes of his father, who was the bandleader and arranger for the Teatro Principal. Later, he followed his own desires to be an artist and continued his studies at the Instituto San Pablo and the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos. Conrad Pla (born October 24, 1966) is a Canadian actor and former professional kickboxer. He is best known for founding Tristar Gym and starring in the Canadian television series ''ReGenesis''. Early life Pla was born in Madrid and moved to Canada with his parents at the age of three. Career Pla was a professional kickboxer between the ages of 18 and 32. He competed in the light heavyweight and super middleweight division. With 26 pro fights, he was ranked 3rd in the world, was the ISKA North American Champion as well as the WKA Intercontinental Champion. He fought Javier Mendez for the ISKA World title in Santa Cruz, California, in 1995 but lost a close split decision. An injury forced him to retire from the sport. He started the Tristar Gym in 1991 together with Michel Lavallée and Ron Di Cecco. In 2001, the gym was sold to Alexandre Choko. He teaches kickboxing and Muay Thai in Montreal. Joan Baptista Pla i Agustí (ca. 17201773) was a Spanish composer and oboist. Pla was born in Catalonia, Spain, into a Catalan family of musicians. In the years after 1751, he worked in many of the principal cities of Europe including Padua, Stuttgart, Brussels, Paris and London along with his brother, Josep Pla i Agustí (1728-1762), a chamber musician. After Josep's death, Joan Baptista went to Lisbon as an oboist and bassoonist. He is thought to have died in Paris. The Pla brothers left hundreds of manuscripts including about 30 trio sonatas and some concertos for flute and strings. As a journalist he worked in France, Italy, England, Germany and Russia, from where he wrote political and cultural chronicles in Catalan and Spanish. Biography The son of rural business owners of modest means from Baix Empordà, he obtained his high school diploma in Girona, where, beginning in 1909, he was a boarding student at the ''Colegio de los Maristas'' (Marist School). In his last academic year (1912–13), he had to take his final exams without having taken the courses because he was expelled from the boarding school.
