Piyoli Phukan
Piyoli Phukan is a black & white Assamese language film directed by Phani Sarma, released in 1955. The film is based on the life and struggle of a historical character of Assam, Piyoli Phukan, son of Badan Borphukan, who revolted against British occupation. He was sentenced to death and hanged in 1830 at Jorhat. The film is produced by Gama Prasad Agarwalla under the banner of Rupjyoti Productions, Tezpur, Assam. Music is composed by Bhupen Hazarika. Piyoli Phukan is the first Assamese film, which got national recognition. The film was honoured by the Certificate of Merit in State Awards, 1956. Plot Piyoli Phukan was the son of Badan Borphukan. Badan is considered as a villain in Assam History. He brought ''Mansena'' (Burmese Army) to Assam to destroy his motherland. Phani Sarma
Phani Sarma (1910–1970) was an Indian theatre actor, playwright, film actor and director. Beginning as a stage actor, he appeared in the first film ever made in Assamese cinema, '' Joymati'', in 1935. Sarma was conferred with the title "Natasurya" for his contribution towards Assamese drama. He acted in and directed ''Siraj'' in 1948 and ''Piyoli Phukan'' in 1955. Film career In 1933 Phani Sarma starred in the first Assamese film, '' Joymati,'' directed by Jyoti Prasad Agarwala. Sarma went on the star in Agarwalla's second picture ''Indramalati''. In 1955 he directed and starred in ''Piyoli Phukan'', also playing the film's protagonist Pioli Phukan. His last film was '' Ito Sito Bahuto'' in 1963 where he appeared as an actor rather than taking the director's helm. Treaty Of Yandabo
The Treaty of Yandabo ( my, ရန္တပိုစာချုပ် ) was the peace treaty that ended the First Anglo-Burmese War. The treaty was signed on 24February 1826, nearly two years after the war formally broke out on 5March 1824, by General Sir Archibald Campbell on the British side, and the Governor of Legaing Maha Min Hla Kyaw Htin from the Burmese side, without any due permission and consent of the Ahom kingdom, Kachari kingdom or the other territories covered in the treaty. With the British army at Yandabo village, only from the capital Ava, the Burmese were forced to accept the British terms without discussion. Nipon Goswami
Nipon Goswami (3 September 1942 – 27 October 2022) was an Indian actor and theatre artist associated with Assamese language, Assamese-language films. He was one of the veteran actors of Assamese Film Industry. He started his acting career as a stage actor and later established himself as a film actor. Personal life Goswami was born on 3 September 1942 at Kolibari in Tezpur, Assam. His father Chandradhar Goswami was a famous actor and his mother Nirupama Goswami was a singer. He did his primary schooling at Kolibari LP School. After that, he moved to Tezpur Govt. HS School. He died after suffering from heart-related ailments on 27 October 2022, at the age of 80. Acting career After completing his B.A. he went to Calcutta for the interview at Pune Film Institute. In 1965, he went to Pune for his acting training. Gyanda Kakati is an Indian actress and a singer associated with the Assamese film industry. She made her debut with Parghat in 1949 and has acted in Bengali films also. She got nominated in the Berlin Film Festival in 1960 for her popular film called Puberun. She even won the Bishnu Rabha Award in 2002 from the Assam Government.
