Pittsburg is a city in Contra Costa County, California, Contra Costa County, California, United States. It is an industrial suburb located on the southern shore of the Suisun Bay in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, and is part of the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta area. The population was 76,416 at the 2020 United States Census. The Jacka
Dominick Newton (August 12, 1977 – February 2, 2015), better known by his stage name The Jacka, was an American rapper from Pittsburg, California. The Jacka began his career as part of the rap group Mob Figaz. He was killed in a shooting in Oakland, California, on February 2, 2015. The murder is currently unsolved. Early life Newton was born to 14-year-old parents and became the family breadwinner as a teenager, a role that landed him in prison for a year at age 18. Newton converted to Islam at a young age and changed his name to ''Shaheed Akbar''. Regan Upshaw
Regan Charles Upshaw (born August 12, 1975) is a former American football defensive tackle who played in the National Football League (NFL) between 1996 and 2004. He was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the 1996 NFL Draft out of the University of California, Berkeley. In high school, Upshaw played for Pittsburg High School (Pittsburg, California), helping defeat the previously undefeated De La Salle in the 1991 NCS championship game played at the Oakland Coliseum. The final score was 35-27. This was the last defeat De La Salle suffered before setting a national high school record of 151 straight victories. Upshaw, who did not play football until his sophomore year at Pittsburg, was a Parade All-America as a senior. He chose the University of California and by his junior year was named All-American. Altie Taylor (September 29, 1947 – March 14, 2010) was an American football running back. He played eight seasons in the National Football League, including seven with the Detroit Lions. He led the Lions in rushing for three consecutive years from 1972 to 1974, appeared in 91 games, 83 as a starter, and in 1975 broke the Lions' career record with 4,297 rushing yards Early years Taylor was born in Berkeley, California, in 1947. Joseph Peter Tafoya (born September 6, 1978) is a former American National Football League (NFL) player and entrepreneur. He played seven seasons as a defensive end/linebacker before injuring his foot in training camp of 2008, upon which he retired. He was drafted in the 7th round of the 2001 NFL Draft by Tony Dungy and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Injured in the first pre-season game of his professional career with an ankle fracture, he was released on injury waivers and picked up by the Chicago Bears. Ken Simonton III (born June 7, 1979) is a former American football running back who last played in the CFL for the Calgary Stampeders after a brief career in the NFL and the NFL Europe. Early life Simonton's family has a history of baseball. His father, Ken Simonton II played in the Boston Red Sox farm system in 1975. His brother Benji Simonton spent eight seasons in the San Francisco Giants and Anaheim Angels organizations and his cousin Cy Simonton played three seasons in the Seattle Mariners organization. James Page (born April 1, 1971 in Pittsburg, CA, United States) is a former professional boxer in the welterweight (147 lb) division. Pro boxing career Nicknamed "Mighty Quinn", Page turned pro in 1990 and beat Andrei Pestriaev in 1998 to capture the Vacant WBA Welterweight Title. John Henry Johnson (November 24, 1929 – June 3, 2011) was an American professional football player who was a running back. He was known for his excellence at the fullback position as both a runner and a blocker. His first professional stint was in Canada in the Western Interprovincial Football Union (WIFU, a forerunner league to today's Canadian Football League) for one season with the Calgary Stampeders.
