Sabah National Parks Trustees
Sabah Parks ( ms, Taman-Taman Sabah) is a conservation-based statutory body established in 1964 with the purpose of conserving the scenic, scientific and historic heritage of the state of Sabah, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. The organisation is also responsible for the management and promotion of the various protected reserves in Sabah, in particular those designated as national parks. It is also mandated to develop tourism-friendly facilities to accommodate tourist arrivals to these reserves and ensure that the state of the reserves is not compromised. The first choice for inclusion in a park system was Mount Kinabalu. As a result, Kinabalu Park was gazetted in 1964, and today it is designated as a World Heritage Site. Hugo Steiner
Hugo Steiner is a Swiss citizen who graduated from the University of Zurich as a physician specialising in endocrinology. He worked for several years as the leader of a research group in experimental endocrinology for Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd in Basel, Switzerland. He has also done research work in Sweden, Italy, France and Germany. In 1965, Dr. Steiner served as team leader of an International Red Cross mission in North Yemen. From 1976 to 1998 he had a private medical practice, specialising in endocrinology and diabetes, in Basel. Between 1991 and 2002, Dr. Steiner and his wife spent a month each year in Borneo, visiting the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak. In 2002, Dr. Steiner published the book ''Borneo: Its Highlands and Lowlands with their Pitcher Plants''. ''Nepenthes of Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia'' is a monograph by Charles Clarke on the tropical pitcher plants of Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, and their minor surrounding islands. Dr. Charles M. Clarke (born in Melbourne, Australia) is an ecologist and botanist specialising in the carnivorous plant genus ''Nepenthes'', for which he is regarded as a world authority.Ellison, A. & Adamec, L. eds., 2018. In between travels, Clarke has taught Ecology and Biometrics at James Cook University in Queensland, and worked as a horticultural consultant in Hong Kong. He now works at the Cairn's Botanic Garden. Anthony Lamb (botanist)
Datuk Anthony L. Lamb M.A., Dip. Ag., D.T.A., P.G.D.K. (born 1937) is a British botanist, born in British Ceylon and specializing in the flora of Sabah, East Malaysia, on the northwest portion of the island of Borneo. Lamb was educated in the United Kingdom, at Blundell's School in Tiverton and at St John's College at Cambridge. Lamb arrived in Sabah, then part of the British Crown Colony of North Borneo, in 1962 and started work on developing agricultural settlement schemes around Tawau. In 1981, Lamb set up the Tenom Orchid Centre as a Sabah State Government conservation project. He is co-author of ''Rhododendrons of Sabah'' (1988) and ''Pitcher-Plants of Borneo'' (1996), and a coordinator and a co-author of the ''Orchids of Borneo'' series. In 2015, Lamb was awarded a P.G.D.K. (Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu, in English: Commander of the Order of Kinabalu) by the Governor of Sabah, which carries the title of Datuk. Anthea Phillipps
Datin Anthea Phillipps B.Sc. (born 3 June 1956) is a British botanist. Phillipps was brought up in Sabah, Borneo as a child (and still dwells there today). She received a Botany degree from the University of Durham, England. She worked at the Sabah Museum before joining the Sabah Parks service from 1980 to 1987 as Park Ecologist, where she studied rhododendrons and pitcher plants. She lives in Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah, and is married to Datuk Anthony Lamb (with two children, Serena and Alexander Lamb).
