Montalegre () is a municipality in northern Portugal, located in the district of Vila Real, along the border with Spain. The population in 2011 was 10,537, in an area of 805.46 km². History Early construction in Montalegre date back 3500–4000 years when early inhabitants, around the villages of Mourela, Veiga and Vila da Ponte, buried their dead in funeral mounds. Vestiges of this culture predominate the region, and suggest that settlements have been ongoing since the Metal Ages. Celt colonies began to appear afterward, constructing castros in many of the places that developed into formal settlements. World RX Of Portugal
The World RX of Portugal is a rallycross event held in Portugal that formed part of the FIA World Rallycross Championship between 2014 and 2018. The event made its debut in the championship's inaugural 2014 season, at the Pista Automóvel de Montalegre in the northern town of Montalegre, close to the Spanish border. It was removed from the series calendar ahead of the 2019 season, marking the first time in the championship's history that the event was not run. The event was set to return in 2020 but was later cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 12 May 2021; it was announced that the event will return in 2021 instead of the World RX of Norway as the final round of the calendar. For 2022 season Montalegre’s layout has been re-profiled, with the old joker lap now the first corner and a new, gravel joker from Turns Two to Five. The TitansRX International Series (formerly known as Red Bull Global Rallycross or Global Rallycross) is a group of rallycross series, currently organised by racing driver Max Pucher and businessman Chip Pankow. The initial series was series run in North America in 2011 and ran for seven seasons until the series folded in 2018, where the series was replaced by the Americas Rallycross Championship.
