Piparwar Area
Piparwar Area is one of the operational areas of the Central Coalfields Limited located mainly in the Chatra district and marginally in the Ranchi district in the state of Jharkhand, India. The projects of the Piparwar Area are: Piparwar opencast, Ray-Bachra underground, Ashoka opencast, Piparwar coal handling plant/ coal preparation plant. The Area office is at Piparwar, PO Bachra. Overview North Karanpura Coalfield has reserves of 14 billion tonnes of coal (proved, indicated and inferred), around 9% of India's total coal reserves, placing it amongst the biggest coalfields in India. Only a small corner of this coalfield was exploited earlier. On the southern side of the Damodar River, there are some long established coal mines – Karkatta, KD Hesalong, Manki, Churi, Bachara and Dakara. North Karanpura Coalfield
North Karanpura Coalfield is located in Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Chatra and Latehar districts in the Indian state of Jharkhand. Overview In 1917, L.S.S.O’Malley described the coalfields in the upper reaches of the Damodar as follows: "Near the western boundary of Jharia field is that of Bokaro, covering" , "with an estimated content of 1,500 million tons; close by… is the Ramgarh field (40 square miles), in which, however, coal is believed to be of inferior quality. Kunda, Chatra
Kunda is a village and gram panchayat in the Kunda CD block in the Chatra subdivision of the Chatra district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. History Kunda fort was strongly fortified and located on a hill in the later medieval period. In 1660, Daud Khan, the Mughal governor of Bihar during the reign of Aurangzeb, occupied the fort and completely destroyed it. Later in the same century, a rebuilt Kunda fort came under the possession of Raja of Ramgarh. In 1734, Alivardi Khan conquered and destroyed it. With the East India Company acquiring the ''diwani'' of Bengal, Bihar and Odisha in 1765, it derived the right to collect revenue from the estates of Ramgarh, Kharagdiha, Kendi and Kunda. In 1769, the area came in contact with the British when Captain Camac visited the area with the objective of establishing some sort of order in the “ Jungleterry” region. In 1771, Capt. Lawalong Wildlife Sanctuary
Lawalong Wildlife Sactuary is located in the Lawalong CD block in the Chatra subdivision of the Chatra district in the state of Jharkhand, India. History Lawalong Wildlife Sanctuary was earlier under the control of the Raja of Ramgarh and other landlords in the area. The government took charge in 1924 and in 1947 it became a private protected forest. The ownership vested with the Government of Bihar in 1953. In earlier days, the presence of wildlife in high numbers in these forests attracted hunters from all over the country. One of the owners of this area, the Tikait of Kunda Estate used to organise “shikar” from time to time, in a big way. Subsequently, hunting was completely banned under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972. Kauleshwari Temple is a pilgrimage centre where Kauleshwari Devi, a form of Sati/Kali, is worshipped. It is in the Chatra subdivision of Chatra district in Jharkhand, India. Chatra is the headquarters of Chatra district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. History Chatra was the “headquarters” of Ramgarh district in the 18th-19th century.
