Piotr Pawlicki, Sr.
Piotr Pawlicki Sr. (born 29 July 1963) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Poland. Career Pawlicki Sr. came to prominence in 1983, when he won the Polish Junior Individual Speedway Championship. He won a bronze medal in the prestigious Golden Helmet during the 1991 Polish speedway season. He spent his entire career riding for his nearby home club of Unia Leszno, where he won three Polish league championships. He retired after suffering serious lumbar vertebrae and spinal cord injuries during the 1992 Polish Pairs Speedway Championship. Unia Leszno are a motorcycle speedway team established on 8 May 1938 and based in Leszno, Poland. The team's home track is at the Stadion Alfreda Smoczyka. They compete in the Ekstraliga (speedway), Ekstraliga (the highest division) and are Poland's most accomplished team, winning 18 Team Speedway Polish Championships (as of 2022). Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). The Polish Pairs Speedway Championship ( Polish: ''Mistrzostwa Polski Par Klubowych, MPPK'') is an annual speedway event held each year in different Polish clubs organized by the Polish Motor Union (PZM) since 1974. The participating teams are drawn into three groups; each staging a pairs competition. The top two teams in each group qualify for the Final. A host team chosen by the GKSŻ is seeded directly to the Final. The team winning the Final is awarded a gold medal and declared Polish Pairs Champions.
