Jerry Pinkney (December 22, 1939 – October 20, 2021) was an American illustrator and writer of children's literature. Pinkney illustrated over 100 books since 1964, including picture books, nonfiction titles and novels. Pinkney's works addressed diverse themes and were usually done in watercolors. In 1994, Pinkney obtained the Boston Globe–Horn Book Award for the book '' John Henry'' and he has received five Coretta Scott King Awards for illustration. William Pinkney
William Pinkney (March 17, 1764February 25, 1822) was an American statesman and diplomat, and was appointed the seventh U.S. Attorney General by President James Madison. Biography William Pinkney was born in 1764 in Annapolis in the Province of Maryland. His parents' home was on the banks of the Severn River, from where the family could see the Chesapeake Bay. Pinkney attended the private King William school. His teacher was a Mr. Brefhard. Although Pinkney left school at the age of thirteen, he had impressed his teacher with his intelligence, and Brefhard agreed to give the youth private lessons at home. Pinkney studied medicine (which he did not practice) and "read the law" with an established firm, as was the practice at the time for aspiring lawyers. He was admitted to the bar in 1786. Jared Pinkney (born August 21, 1997) is an American football tight end for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Vanderbilt and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons in 2020. He also played for the Tennessee Titans. Edward Coote Pinkney
Edward Coote Pinkney (October 1, 1802 – April 11, 1828) was an American poet, lawyer, sailor, professor, and editor. Born in London in 1802 when his William Pinkney, father was serving as ambassador to the Court of St. James, Pinkney returned with his family to the United States when he was eight. They returned to Maryland, where he was privately schooled. After attending college (academy level), he joined the United States Navy at age 13, and traveled throughout the Mediterranean Sea, Mediterranean and elsewhere. He later attempted a law career but was unsuccessful at building the business. He tried to join the Mexican army, but they did not accept him. He died of tuberculosis at the age of 25 in 1828. Pinkney published several lyric poetry, lyric poems inspired primarily by the work of British poets. Willie “Bill” Pinkney (August 15, 1925 – July 4, 2007) was an American performer and singer. Pinkney was often said to be the last surviving original member of The Drifters, who achieved international fame with numerous hit records. He was chiefly responsible for its early sounds. The Drifters have had a strong influence on soul, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll music. Kevinn Lamar Pinkney (born October 10, 1983) is an American professional basketball player. Professional career Despite a highly successful career as a power forward at the University of Nevada, Reno where he also played with 2007 draft prospect Nick Fazekas and led the overachieving Wolf Pack to the Sweet 16 of the 2004 NCAA Tournament, the 6'10" Pinkney did not hear his name called on draft night of 2005. His size and abilities did not fit scouts' prototypical image of either a power forward or a center. Robert Theron "Ron" Pinkney (born May 26, 1935) is an American pioneer broadcaster who was the first African American play-by-play announcer on a major television network (ABC). The game was played at the Memorial Stadium in Jackson, Mississippi between Mississippi Valley State and Jackson State. Black Autonomy Network Community Organization
The Black Autonomy Network Community Organization (BANCO) is a political and social justice coalition working in Benton Harbor, Michigan, US. It was founded by Edward Pinkney to protest the June 16, 2003 death of a 28-year-old African-American, Terrance Shurn, while being pursued by Benton Township police. A riot followed the death, as accounts differedas to whether Shurn had lost control of his motorcycle or had been forced off the road by police. BANCO organized rallies in the days following Shurn's death and the resulting disturbance. It has since broadened its scope to support candidates for local office. BANCO retains its focus on monitoring police activities. In September 2004, BANCO announced it had purchased facilities to open a textile plant in Benton Harbor. Andrea Davis Pinkney (born 1963) is the author of numerous books for children and young adults, including picture books, novels, works of historical fiction and nonfiction who writes about African-American culture. In addition to her work as an author, Pinkney has had a career as a children's book publisher and editor, including as founder of the Jump at the Sun imprint at Hyperion Books for Children, the Disney Book Group (now Disney Publishing Worldwide). She is vice president and editor-at-large for Scholastic Trade Books. Ninian Pinkney
Ninian Pinkney (17 June 1811 – 15 December 1877), also spelled Pinckney, born in the Hammond-Harwood House in Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated from St. John's College, Annapolis, Maryland, in 1829, and from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1833. He spent his entire naval career helping to develop the field of surgery and medicine. He was especially prominent—and praised—during the American Civil War.
