Ping Pung
Ping Pung is a Hong Kong-based Cantonese pop-rock group. Gathered by Gold Label in Summer of 2003, the group consists of four members: Kary Ng as the lead singer, Jan and Jerry Lee (who are the younger brothers of the renowned local composer Mark Lui as well as the members of band Online) and DJ Tin "Tim" Ho. Three of the members were of other bands originally. At the same time, Kary Ng was the lead vocalist of Cookies, another Hong Kong band under the same company. The band name, which is Ping Pung, has no particular meaning and it is only for fun, as they are to be known for the creativity in music. "Ping Pung" does not represent any Chinese characters. As with many Chinese rock bands, the band takes an indie approach by producing all of their songs, as well as controlling all elements of the creative process, including the arrangement, melody and lyrics (written by Jan and Jerry). Cantopop
Cantopop (a contraction of "Cantonese pop music") or HK-pop (short for "Hong Kong pop music") is a genre of pop music written in standard Chinese and sung in Cantonese. Cantopop is also used to refer to the cultural context of its production and consumption. The genre began in the 1970s and became associated with Hong Kong popular music from the middle of the decade. Cantopop then reached its height of popularity in the 1980s and 1990s before slowly declining in the 2000s and experiencing a slight revival in the 2010s. The term "Cantopop" itself was coined in 1978 after "Cantorock", a term first used in 1974. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Gold Typhoon Group is a Chinese entertainment company. Gold Label was founded in 2004 in Hong Kong, launched with the support of EMI, and acquired EMI Music Taiwan / EMI Music China (Typhoon Records) in 2008, reforming to Gold Typhoon. On 1 January 2011, it became a wholly owned subsidiary of Pacific Global Management Asia (PGMA) under the leadership of Chairman Louis Pong. Kary Ng
Kary Ng (born 9 June 1986) is a pop rock singer in Hong Kong. When she debuted, she had been a member of a music group, Cookies; however, the members of Cookies were eventually arranged to explore their respective solo careers in 2005, and the group is now disbanded. She had temporarily been the lead vocals of rock band Ping Pung in 2004, but Ping Pung had also disbanded after only releasing one album that same year. Commencing in 2005, Ng had officially begun developing her career as a solo artist. As a girl, Ng had studied at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong. She had made references to her nickname "Lady K" in the album titles " Lady K Live" and " Lady K: Transformation". Cookies were a music group in Hong Kong created by Chan Chi Kwong under giant record label EMI Hong Kong and later managed by Paco Wong of then Gold Label Entertainment (now known as Gold Typhoon). History The group was formed with nine members in 2002 and was considered an emulation of the Japanese group Morning Musume.That same year the group released their debut album ''Happy Birthday''.
