Piney Creek is a stream in southern Carroll County, Arkansas, Carroll County of the U.S. state of Arkansas. It is a tributary to the Kings River (Arkansas), Kings River. The stream headwaters arise near at an elevation of approximately 1660 feet. The source area is on the southwest flank of Usery Mountain just north of Arkansas Highway 68 about one half mile northeast of Gobbler, Arkansas, Gobbler. The stream flows northwest parallel to Arkansas Highway 103 past Rudd, Arkansas, Rudd and Metalton, Arkansas, Metalton. It passes under Arkansas Highway 21 at Metalton and continues to the northwest to enter the Kings River at the Carroll-Madison county line at and an elevation of 1132 feet. The Piney River is a stream that drains a portion of Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau generally known as Walden Ridge. The Piney River rises near the Rhea County – Bledsoe County line and is referred to as Piney Creek in its upper reaches roughly until its confluence with Duskin Creek. Its major tributary, Little Piney Creek, flows over two spectacular waterfalls which are located in Piney Falls State Natural Area near the community of Grandview. A tributary of Little Piney Creek is Soak Creek, Tennessee's newest State Scenic River. The confluence of the two streams occurs below the falls of the smaller stream in an area referred to as "Shut-in Gap". The stream flows out of the gap and is bridged by State Route 68 just before that road begins its steep climb up the Cumberland Escarpment onto Waldens Ridge. Piney Creek Wilderness
The Piney Creek Wilderness is an wilderness area in Missouri. The United States Congress designated it wilderness in 1980. The Piney Creek Wilderness is located within the Ava-Cassville-Willow Springs Ranger District of the Mark Twain National Forest, east of Cassville, Missouri. The area is named after Piney Creek, which runs the length of the wilderness area and eventually empties into the James River arm of Table Rock Lake. The Piney Creek Wilderness is one of eight wilderness areas of the Mark Twain National Forest that are protected and preserved in Missouri. The major east-west trail follows Piney Creek for approximately four miles. From Pineview Tower Trailhead on the north, two paths of 1.5 miles each lead south to Piney Creek. Two other maintained foot and horse trails leave the main trail to head south for a grand total of 13.1 Wilderness miles. Portions of the trail system include old roads.
