Pineland is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) on Pine Island in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 466 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Pineland is located in western Lee County at (26.664274, -82.146106), on the west side of Pine Island near its northern end. It is bordered to the north and east by Bokeelia, to the south by Pine Island Center, and to the west by Pine Island Sound, an arm of the Gulf of Mexico. The northeast border of the CDP is Stringfellow Road (County Road 767), which runs north–south the length of the island. According to the United States Census Bureau, the Pineland CDP has a total area of , of which , or 2.90%, are water. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which, of it is land and of it (4.37%) is water. Climate The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Pineland has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps. Historical development The site was first established in 1902 as the ''Gulf, Beaumont and Great Northern Railway'' was built through the county, as this was a lumber camp. Pineland Archeological District
The Pineland Archeological District (also known as Battey's Landing or Battey Place or the Pineland Site) is a U.S. historic district (designated as such on November 27, 1973) located on Pine Island, near Pineland, Florida, and next to Pine Island Sound. The site was occupied by people of the Caloosahatchee culture, known as the Calusa in historic times, from 500 BCE until after 1700. The site includes shell and sand mounds and other structures and prehistoric canals and artificial lakes. It also includes structures from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Description The Pineland Archeological District includes a number of mounds and other features. Close to the shore is Battey's Landing (8LL35), consisting of the Brown Mound Complex, with five mounds, to the northwest, and to the southeast, the Randell Mound Complex, with two mounds. Pineland Farms
Pineland Farms is a 5,000-acre farm and recreational property in the eastern part of New Gloucester, Maine. It is partly on the site of the former Pineland Hospital and Training Center. History In the early part of the 20th century, the State of Maine purchased six farms in New Gloucester, Maine, which became known as Pineland Farms. The purpose of this purchase was to build the Maine School for the Feeble Minded on part of the land and continue farming on the rest of it. The Maine School for the Feeble-Minded and Pownal State School Opening in 1908, the Maine School for the Feeble-Minded was an institution that housed people who were considered mentally unfit by the standards of that day; however, during its early years, the State also placed orphans and other wards of the state at the Maine School, as no other public services existed to help them. The Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC) or, informally, the Q Course is the initial formal training program for entry into the United States Army Special Forces. Phase I of the Q Course is Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS). Getting "Selected" at SFAS will enable a candidate to continue to the next of the four phases. If a candidate successfully completes all phases they will graduate as a Special Forces qualified soldier and then, generally, be assigned to a 12-men Operational Detachment "A" (ODA), commonly known as an "A team." The Pineland, also known as Black Swamp Plantation Summer House, is a historic home located near Garnett, Hampton County, South Carolina. It is an example of late Federal–early Greek Revival residential design with Victorian-era alterations and additions. The house evolved from a summer house for nearby Black Swamp Plantation during the period ca. 1800–1865 to a main residence since 1865.
