Pinebridge Coliseum, also known as The Bridge Coliseum, is a 5,000 seat indoor arena located in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. When it opened in 1983, it was the largest arena with an ice rink in North Carolina. Spruce Pine, North Carolina
Spruce Pine is a town in Mitchell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,175 at the 2010 census. History Spruce Pine was founded in 1907 when the Clinchfield Railroad made its way up the North Toe River from Erwin, Tennessee. The town was originally centered around a tavern operated by Isaac English, located on an old roadway that ran from Cranberry, North Carolina, down to Marion, NC. The Old English Inn still stands at its original location near the center of town. In 1923, after an escaped convict allegedly raped a local resident, a large armed mob rounded up scores of men who were laboring on a road construction project and forced them to leave town on boxcars. The Pinebridge Bucks were a professional ice hockey team in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, and a member of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League from 1983 to 1985. Its colors were forest green, gold and maroon. Spruce Pine, with a population of just over 2,000 at the time, is the smallest city to host a professional hockey team in the modern era. The Bucks played their home games in the Pinebridge Coliseum, where beer was unavailable for purchase during games due to Mitchell County's dry status at that time.
