Pinchas Abramovich
Pinchas Abramovich (1909–1986; he, 'פנחס אברמוביץ) was an Israeli painter during the period of the Yishuv and the following days of the state of Israel. He was one of the founders of the Ofakim Hadashim art group. Biography Pinhas Abramovich was born in 1909, in Mažeikiai, in the Russian Empire (today, in Lithuania), as the youngest of eight children in a family of Orthodox Judaism, Orthodox Jews. In 1925, he studied at the Kaunas Art School. In 1927, he joined Hashomer Hatzair movement and immigrated to Palestine (region), Palestine in 1929. He spent his first years in Israel as a worker and a kibbutz member in Kibbutz Beit Zera. In 1932, he moved to Tel Aviv, and spent two years working at the studio of the Israeli artist Joseph Zaritsky together with Yehiel Krize, Arie Aroch, Chaya Schwartz and others. Mažeikiai
Mažeikiai (; Samogitian: ''Mažeikē''; lv, Mažeiķi) is a city in northwestern Lithuania, on the Venta River. It has a population of around 43,547, making it the eighth largest city in Lithuania. The city is the administrative center of Mažeikiai district municipality in Telšiai County. It is the largest city that does not have its own county. History Mažeikiai was first mentioned in written sources in 1335. A chronicler of the Livonian Order wrote about a campaign of the Order, during which the land of Duke Mažeika was devastated. The town started growing rapidly in 1869 when the Libau–Romny Railway connecting Vilnius and Liepāja was constructed. In 1893, the town had 13 shops and 5 alehouses. In 1894 an Eastern Orthodox church was built, and a synagogue had been founded several years earlier. In 1902 a Catholic church was established, followed by an Evangelical-Lutheran church in 1906.
