Pillow Of Death
''Pillow of Death'' is a 1945 film noir mystery film, mystery horror film directed by Wallace Fox and starring Lon Chaney, Jr. and Brenda Joyce (actress), Brenda Joyce. The last of the Inner Sanctum Mysteries#Films, Inner Sanctum mystery films, it is based on a story by Dwight V. Babcock. The "Inner Sanctum" franchise originated with a popular radio series and all of the films star Lon Chaney, Jr. It was the only entry in the series to dispense with the introduction by a disembodied head in a crystal ball, as well as the only one to feature Comic relief, comic-relief characters to alleviate the grim tone. Plot summary Attorney Wayne Fletcher (Chaney, Jr.) intends to divorce his wife and marry his secretary (Joyce), who comes from a wealthy family. When the wife is found suffocated to death, he naturally becomes the suspect. Clara Blandick
Clara Blandick (born Clara Blanchard Dickey; June 4, 1876 – April 15, 1962) was an American character, film, stage and theater actress. She played Aunt Em in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's '' The Wizard of Oz'' (1939). As a character actress, she often played eccentric elderly matriarchs. Early life She was born Clara Blanchard Dickey, the daughter of Isaac B. and Hattie (née Mudgett) Dickey, aboard the ''Willard Mudgett'' – an American ship captained by her father (named after one of her maternal relatives), and docked in Victoria Harbour, British Hong Kong. She was delivered by Captain William H. Blanchard, whose ship, ''Wealthy Pendleton'', was anchored nearby. His wife, Clara Pendleton Blanchard, was also present. Wilton Graff (born Wilton Calvert Ratcliffe; August 13, 1903 – January 13, 1969) was an American actor. Early years The son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Graff, he was born Wilton Calvert Ratcliffe in St. Louis, Missouri, US. He graduated from West Hartford High School in 1921. Career Before he became an actor, Graff worked for newspapers, including ''The Hartford Times'', '' The Springfield Republican'', and the ''Paris Herald''. Graff debuted on Broadway in ''Fantasia'' (1933). His last Broadway appearance was in ''Gabrielle'' (1941).
