Pillar Point (band)
Pillar Point is an American indie pop, synthpop band based out of Seattle, Washington, United States. Biography Pillar Point is the solo recording project of Scott Reitherman (also of Throw Me The Statue). In June 2013, the band signed with Polyvinyl Record Co. and unveiled the first single, “Diamond Mine,” which was later released as a 7" on September 3, 2013. The self-titled full-length album, ''Pillar Point'', was released the following year on February 25, 2014 on Polyvinyl. The album went on to receive press accolades with features in Stereogum, SPIN, and others. Following the album's release, Pillar Point embarked on national tours with of Montreal and Soft Swells. The band has been remixed by Generationals, Ruby Suns, and Music Go Music. The band's music video for “Dreamin’” was featured on Vimeo’s Staff Picks VICE premiered the video for "Dove" starring Kia Labeija. Kia LaBeija (born Kia Michelle Benow; March 18, 1990) is an American fine artist. Her most well known series, ''24,'' is a sociopolitical commentary on the effects of growing up as a young woman of color with HIV. She is a former Mother of the Royal House of LaBeija. Biography Kia LaBeija was born and raised in Hell's Kitchen, New York. Her mother, Kwan Bennet, was born in Subic Bay, Philippines and is Filipino American. Her father, drummer Warren Benbow, was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and is African American. She grew up in Manhattan Plaza and was in the dance program at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Alvin Ailey. In 1993, LaBeija was diagnosed with HIV at the age of three, having contracted the virus through perinatal (mother-to-child) transmission. They formed in 2004 when Californian Ryan McPhun moved to Auckland and started playing in several bands such as The Brunettes, The Tokey Tones, and The Reduction Agents.
