Combined Oral Contraceptive Pill
The combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP), often referred to as the birth control pill or colloquially as "the pill", is a type of birth control that is designed to be taken orally by women. The pill contains two important hormones: progestin (a synthetic form of the hormone progestogen/progesterone) and estrogen (usually ethinylestradiol and 17β estradiol). When taken correctly, it alters the menstrual cycle to eliminate ovulation and prevent pregnancy. COCPs were first approved for contraceptive use in the United States in 1960, and are a very popular form of birth control. They are used by more than 100 million women worldwide and by about 9 million women in the United States. From 2015 to 2017, 12.6% of women aged 15–49 in the US reported using COCPs, making it the second most common method of contraception in this age range (female sterilization is the most common method). ''The Pill'' is a 2011 American romantic comedy film starring Rachel Boston and Noah Bean. Plot Mindy (Rachel Boston), a young, single woman living in New York City meets Fred (Noah Bean); the two soon after embark on an evening of unprotected sex. The following day, Fred panics after he discovers Mindy's not using contraception. The plot begins when he insists that she use emergency contraception, to which she obliges. Soon after, Fred breaks it off only to realize that the process will require taking two pills. Fred spends the day with Mindy to ensure she takes the second pill and in the process gets to know her better. When Mindy finds out that Fred has a live-in girlfriend, she takes the second pill and breaks it off. The film ends when weeks later they both meet up again. The Brothers-in-Law
The Brothers-in-Law was a Canadian satirical musical group that was active from 1963 to 1970. They recorded six albums and generated occasional controversy because of their subject matter. History The members were songwriter Alec Somerville on banjo, Howard Duffy on guitar, Larry Reaume on guitar, and Ken Clarke on bass. Somerville, Duffy and Clarke were police officers, hence the name Brothers-in-Law. Reaume was the City of Windsor's district fire chief. In 1965, Clarke left the band and was replaced by school teacher Bob Lee. In 1966, Duffy left the band, but was not replaced. Everyone kept their day jobs, and only performed about a dozen concerts a year. Their repertoire consisted mainly of musical satire poking fun at the Canadian government, sex and censorship, the law, and consumer issues; their music was a mixture of original songs and adaptations of folk and stage tunes (particularly based on Gilbert and Sullivan). Pillgwenlly ( cy, Pilgwenlli), usually known as Pill, is a community (civil parish) and coterminous electoral district (ward) in the city of Newport, South Wales. Etymology The name is an elision of " Pîl Gwynllyw" (or "Gwynllyw's Pîl" in English). Pill is a village in North Somerset, England, situated on the southern bank of the Avon, about northwest of Bristol city centre. The village is the largest settlement in the civil parish of Pill and Easton-in-Gordano (until 2011 named Easton in Gordano). The former hamlets of Lodway and Ham Green are now contiguous with Pill, and the village of Easton in Gordano is nearby. The parish extends northwest beyond the M5 motorway to include the Royal Portbury Dock. History The name "Pill" comes from the Welsh word '' Pîl'' which denotes a tidal inlet or harbour. The later name Crockerne Pill (literally 'pottery wharf') arose from the fact that an industrial-scale pottery thrived nearby.
