Pike County Courthouse (Murfreesboro, Arkansas)
The Pike County Courthouse is located at Courthouse Square in the center of Murfreesboro, Arkansas, United States. The two-story Art Deco structure was designed by the Texarkana, Arkansas, Texarkana firm of Witt, Seibert & Halsey, and built in 1931–32. It is the county's fourth courthouse, all of which were built at or near the location of this one. A near duplicate of the Sevier County, Arkansas, Sevier County Courthouse in DeQueen, Arkansas, DeQueen, it is the only major Art Deco structure in the county. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. Murfreesboro, Arkansas
Murfreesboro is a city in, and the county seat of, Pike County, Arkansas, United States. Its population was 1,641 at the 2010 census. The city is known for the Crater of Diamonds State Park located south of the city. History In 1906, diamonds were found on a local farm. It was determined that an 80-acre (32 ha) volcanic formation was the source of the diamonds. The property was eventually sold to the state of Arkansas, which opened the 37-acre Crater of Diamonds State Park to the public. As a tourist attraction a daily fee ($10 in 2021) is charged to search for diamonds. Also located in Murfreesboro is the 1,000-year-old Ka-Do-Ha Indian Village and museum dedicated to it, which offers a field that can be excavated for authentic arrowheads. Witt, Seibert & Halsey was an American architectural firm based in the twin cities of Texarkana, Arkansas and Texarkana, Texas, with a practice extending into Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. It was founded by architect Sidney Stewart, but achieved prominence under Bayard Witt and Eugene C. Seibert. History Bayard Witt was born in 1880 in Witt's Foundry, Tennessee. He worked as a railroad laborer and foreman before obtaining an apprenticeship in civil engineering. In 1904 he moved to Texarkana, Arkansas, joining the office of architect Sidney Stewart,St. John's Episcopal Church NRHP Nomination (2017) who had been practicing in Texarkana since at least 1900. Texarkana is a city in the U.S. state of Arkansas and the county seat of Miller County, on the southwest border of the state. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 29,387. Sevier County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 17,058. The county seat is De Queen. Sevier County is Arkansas's 16th county, formed on October 17, 1828, and named for Ambrose Sevier, U.S. Senator from Arkansas. De Queen ( ) is a city and the county seat of Sevier County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 6,629 at the 2010 census. The placename is the anglicization of the family name of the Dutch merchant and railway financier, Jan de Goeijen (1861–1944).
