Pike County Arts And Crafts
Pike County Arts and Crafts (PCAC), headquartered in Milford, Pennsylvania, is the oldest (established 1950) and largest (200 members) arts education organization in northeastern Pennsylvania. Headquartered in the Milford Boro Hall, the group holds regularly scheduled classes as well as seminars taught by master artists, such as, Ada R. Cecere, Matilda Grech and others mentioned below. Also teaching classes are master crafters. PCAC was chosen by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts as winner of the 2007 Pennsylvania State "Creative Community Award". Milford, Pennsylvania
Milford is a borough in Pike County, Pennsylvania and the county seat. Its population was 1,103 at the 2020 census. Located on the upper Delaware River, Milford is part of the New York metropolitan area. History The area along the Delaware River had long been settled by the Lenape, an Algonquian-speaking indigenous tribe that lived in the mid-Atlantic coastal areas at the time of European colonization. The English also called them the Delaware, after the river they named for colonial leader Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr, the Delaware. Milford was founded in 1796 by Judge John Biddis, one of Pennsylvania's first four circuit judges. He named the settlement after his ancestral home in Wales. Milford has a large number of buildings of historical significance, many constructed in the nineteenth century and early twentieth centuries. Gaetano Cecere
Gaetano Cecere, (November 26, 1894 – 1985) is an American sculptor. He was born, educated and worked in New York City. He studied with Hermon A MacNeil, with work in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and Gaetano, known as "Guy," attended the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design and the National Academy of Design. In 1920 he won the Prix de Rome and studied at the American Academy in Rome for several years. During this period a "tendency to simplify forms for decorative effects was developed." Cecere has works and documents housed in many major museums and collections, including the Smithsonian Institution, the "National Collection of Fine Arts" and the Archives of American Art". He was a member of the National Sculpture Society. Cecere sculpted the plaster model for the first version of the Distinguished Service Cross and later designed the Soldier's Medal.
