Pignon Airport
Pignon Airport is an airport serving Pignon, a city in the Nord (Haitian department), Nord Department of Haiti. The airport has scheduled and charter airline service from Port-au-Prince. The runway has an additional grass overrun on the southwest end. It is south of the city. There is a large hill just to the north of the Pignon. History It was financed and built by Dr Guy Theodore. The Autorité Aéroportuaire Nationale (AAN) is a government agency responsible for operating Haitian commercial airports. AAN ensures the creation, extension, management, operation and installation of airport facilities and civil aerodromes throughout the Haitian territory. Its main office is located on Boulevard Toussaint Louverture in Tabarre, Haiti. History In the late 1970s, due to the growth of air transport in Haiti, the former President of the Republic Jean Claude Duvalier agreed to establish an autonomous body to ensure the extension, management and operation of civilian airport facilities and civilian aerodromes in the Republic. Thus, by decrees, an autonomous body of unlimited duration was established, enjoying its complete technical and financial autonomy and having its own legal responsibility. Pignon ( ht, Piyon) is a commune in the Saint-Raphaël Arrondissement, in the Nord department of Haiti. It has 29,327 inhabitants. Government Pignon's territory includes the ''Sections Communales'' of Savanette and La Belle Mère. During the October 25, 2015 election, Mr. Peter Castin Constantin was elected as the Deputy for Pignon, Lavictoire, and Ranquite for 4 years. Nord ( French) or Nò (Haitian Creole; both meaning "North") is one of the ten departments of Haiti and located in northern Haiti. It has an area of and a population of 1,067,177 (2015). Its capital is Cap-Haïtien. History Taino Period The department was part of the Chiefdom of Marien with settlements such as Guarico in Limonade and Guanawari in Grande-Rivière-du-Nord. Spanish Period After the arrival of Columbus, the Taino granted the Spanish land to build the fort Navidad with their shipwreck, the first Colombian-era shelter built by Europeans in America. Port-au-Prince ( , ; ht, Pòtoprens ) is the capital and most populous city of Haiti. All of the major transportation systems in Haiti are located near or run through the capital, Port-au-Prince. Roads Haiti's network of roads consists of National Roads, Department Roads, and county roads. The hub of the road network is located at the old airport (at the intersection of Boulevard Jean-Jacques Dessalines and Autoroute de Delmas).
