Christian Democracy ( it, Democrazia Cristiana, DC) was a Christian democratic political party in Italy. The DC was founded on 15 December 1943 in the Italian Social Republic (Nazi-occupied Italy) as the ideal successor of the Italian People's Party, which had the same symbol, a crusader shield (''scudo crociato''). As a Catholic-inspired, centrist, catch-all party comprising both centre-right and centre-left political factions, the DC played a dominant role in the politics of Italy for fifty years, and had been part of the government from soon after its inception until its final demise on 16 January 1994 amid the ''Tangentopoli'' scandals. The Order of Merit of the Italian Republic ( it, Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana) is the senior Italian order of merit. It was established in 1951 by the second President of the Italian Republic, Luigi Einaudi. The highest-ranking honour of the Republic, it is awarded for "merit acquired by the nation" in the fields of literature, the arts, economy, public service, and social, philanthropic and humanitarian activities and for long and conspicuous service in civilian and military careers. The post-nominal letters for the order are OMRI. The order effectively replaced national orders such as the Civil Order of Savoy (1831), the Order of the Crown of Italy (1868), the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus (1572) and the Supreme Order of the Most Holy Annunciation (1362). Nicola Signorello
Nicola Signorello (18 June 1926 – 26 December 2022) was an Italian Christian Democracy politician and publicist. Life and career Signorello was born in San Nicola da Crissa, in Calabria, and graduated in Jurisprudence. A member of Christian Democracy (Democrazia Cristiana, DC), he was elected in the provincial council of Rome in 1952, remaining there until 1960 when he became president of the province (in charge until 1965). Signorello was initially near to Mario Scelba's wing within DC, but later moved to Giulio Andreotti's faction, becoming one of the latter's frontmen in Rome alongside Amerigo Petrucci and Franco Evangelisti. In 1968, he was elected into the Italian Senate, and was confirmed until 1985. Franco Carraro (born 6 December 1939) is an Italian sport manager and politician. Career Carraro was born on 6 December 1939 in Padua, at the time Kingdom of Italy. He worked in many high-profile roles in the public and private sectors. He was the president of the from 1962 to 1976. That was followed by the presidency of Italian association football club Milan from 1967 to 1971. In the 1970s, Carraro worked in the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
