Piet A. Verheyen
Petrus Antonius Verheyen (14 November 1931 – 2 June 2021) was a Dutch economist and academic who was Emeritus Professor of Econometrics at the Tilburg University. Biography Petrus Antonius Verheyen was born in Alphen, North Brabant on 14 November 1931. He received his Ph.D in 1962 from the Tilburg University with a thesis entitled "Economie en techniek : beschouwingen over de technische coëfficiënten, de groeifactor en het kapitaalrendement in de theoretische economie" under supervision of Dirk B.J. Schouten. In 1963 Verheyen was appointed Professor at the Tilburg University, Department of Economics. He had a special interest in the application of computers in business, and with Max Euwe and Jan Willem van Belkum published the 1968 book "Computer en onderneming". Among his doctoral students were Wim van Hulst (1973), Theo Bemelmans (1976)and Arnoud Boot (1987). Alphen, North Brabant
Alphen is a village in the municipality of Alphen-Chaam, in the Netherlands. It is located about 12 km southwest of Tilburg. History Alphen was first mentioned in 709, when a nobleman named Engelbrecht sold "Alfheim" to Saint Willibrord. In 739, it was sold on to the Abbey of Echternach. Alphen was originally a collection hamlets which started to concentrate around the church. The Catholic St Willibrord Church was built in 1954 to replace a church from 1909-1910 which was destroyed in 1944. The earliest church dated from the 16th century and had a tower which was built around 1559. The emergency church which was built in 1945, it is still located next to the St Willibrord Church. In 1542, Alphen was burned to the ground by the army of Guelders under Maarten van Rossum, and in 1944, it suffered from destruction and looting as well. Max Euwe
Machgielis "Max" Euwe (; May 20, 1901 â€“ November 26, 1981) was a Dutch chess player, mathematician, author, and chess administrator. He was the fifth player to become World Chess Champion, a title he held from 1935 until 1937. He served as President of FIDE, the World Chess Federation, from 1970 to 1978. Early years, education and professional career Euwe was born in the Watergraafsmeer, in Amsterdam. He studied mathematics at the University of Amsterdam under the founder of intuitionistic logic, L.E.J. Brouwer (who later became his friend and for whom he held a funeral oration), and earned his doctorate in 1926 under Roland Weitzenböck. Wilhelmus Gijsbertus Henri (Wim) van Hulst (1939-2018) was a Dutch business economist, and Emeritus Professor Business Economics at the Tilburg University. Theodore Aloysius Maria (Theo) Bemelmans (born 24 February 1943) is a Dutch computer scientist and Emeritus Professor of Administrative Information Systems and Automation at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Arnoud W.A. Boot (born January 2, 1960 – Huizen, Netherlands) is a Dutch economist and professor of Corporate Finance and Financial Markets at the University of Amsterdam. Frederick "Rick" van der Ploeg (born 28 April 1956, in Rotterdam) is a Dutch economist and former politician.
