Pierre Pestieau
Pierre Pestieau (born September 10, 1943 in Froidchapelle) is a Belgian economist. Pierre Pestieau received his master's degree in economics from the University of Louvain and his doctorate in economics from Yale University. From 1971 to 2006 he taught at Cornell University, then became professor of economics at the University of Liege, Belgium, from 1975 through 2008, when he became Professor Emeritus. He also a member of CORE and associate member of the Paris School of Economics as well as a fellow of IZA and CESIfo. Pierre Pestieau's main fields of interest are public economics, population economics and social security. He has published several books and more than 250 articles in different international journals (Econometrica, Journal of Economic Theory, International Economic Review, Social Choice and Welfare). Francqui Foundation
The Francqui Foundation was founded in 1932 by Emile Francqui and Herbert Hoover with the goal "to further the development of higher education and scientific research in Belgium". The foundation is a private foundation under the legal form of a Belgian ''Fondation of Public Utility''. The Francqui Foundation wants to encourage the prestige of disinterested fundamental research. Francqui Prize In 1933, the Francqui Prize was awarded for the first time. This prize is intended for those Belgians who have made an important contribution to science and thereby to Belgium. Henri Pirenne, Christian de Duve, and Ilya Prigogine are among those who have received this prize. Francqui Chairs A Belgian or non-Belgian scientist can be invited by the Francqui Foundation for a stay at a Belgian university. Walloons (; french: Wallons ; wa, Walons) are a Gallo-Romance ethnic group living native to Wallonia and the immediate adjacent regions of France. Walloons primarily speak ''langues d'oïl'' such as Belgian French, Picard and Walloon. Walloons are historically and primarily Roman Catholic. In modern Belgium, Walloons are, by law, termed a "distinctive linguistic and ethnic community" within the country, as are the neighbouring Flemish, a Germanic group. When understood as a regional identification, the ethnonym is also extended to refer to the inhabitants of the Walloon region in general, regardless of ethnicity or ancestry.
