Pierre Krier
Pierre Krier (5 March 1885 – 20 January 1947) was a Luxembourgers, Luxembourgian politician. In 1916 he joined the weekly newspaper of the socialist party, ''Die Schmiede'' (''The Forge''). In September 1916 he helped found the first socialist trade union, the ''Luxemburger Metallarbeiter-Verband''. On 30 May 1918 he was elected to the Chamber for the canton Esch on the list of the Social Democrats. From 1924 to 1937 he was on the city council of Luxembourg city. From July 1919 onwards he was general secretary of the free trade unions and editor of their publication, ''Der Proletarier''. On 5 November 1937 he became Minister for Work in the Dupong-Krier Government. He kept this portfolio until his death in 1947, including his time in the government in exile. Pierre Krier was married to the trade unionist and women's rights activist Lily Becker. Luxembourgers
Luxembourgers ( ; lb, Lëtzebuerger ) are a Germanic ethnic group and nation native to their nation state of Luxembourg, where they make up around half of the population. They share the culture of Luxembourg and speak Luxembourgish. Luxembourgers were, much like Austrians, historically considered to be a regional subgroup of ethnic Germans and viewed themselves as such until the collapse of the German Confederation. Luxembourg became independent, while remaining in personal union with the Netherlands, after the signing of the Treaty of London in 1839. The personal union proved short-lived as it was bilaterally and amicably dissolved in 1890.Cole (2011), p. 246 Legally, all citizens of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg are considered to be ''Luxembourgers'' per Luxembourgish law, although a distinct Germanic ethnolinguistic identification is vocally espoused and promoted. Antoine Krier (21 April 1897 – 22 September 1983) was a Luxembourgish politician for the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP). From 1929 until 1935, Krier was the President of the LSAP's predecessor party, the Socialist Party.
