Pierre Guénin
Pierre Guénin (19 February 1927 – 1 March 2017) was a French journalist and gay rights activist. He was an early publisher of LGBT magazines in the late 1960s and the 1970s, and the founder of the LGBT film awards in France. He was the founder of the eponymous Prix Pierre Guénin for LGBT activists. Early life Pierre Guénin was born in Étampes, France on 19 February 1927. Career Guénin was a journalist for '' Cinémonde'', a magazine about cinema. Guénin founded Editions S.A.N., a publisher of LGBT magazines, in 1967. Étampes
Étampes () is a commune in the metropolitan area of Paris, France. It is located south-southwest from the center of Paris (as the crow flies). Étampes is a sub-prefecture of the Essonne department. Étampes, together with the neighboring communes of Morigny-Champigny and Brières-les-Scellés, form an urban area of 30,881 inhabitants (2018). This urban area is a "satellite city" of Paris. History Étampes () existed at the beginning of the 7th century and in the early Middle Ages belonged to the crown domain. During the Middle Ages it was the scene of several councils, the most notable of which took place in 1130 and resulted in the recognition of Innocent II as the legitimate pope. In 1652, during the war of the Fronde it suffered severely at the hands of the royal troops under Turenne. ''Cinémonde'' was a weekly popular film magazine which existed between 1928 and 1971 with six-year interruption due to its ban during the Nazi occupation of France. It was one of the best-selling magazines in its category particularly in the 1950s. History and profile ''Cinémonde'' was launched in 1928. It came out weekly. In 1940 the magazine was closed by the Nazi forces after the occupation of France. ''Cinémonde'' was restarted in March 1946 and published until 1971. In the 1930s one of its editors-in-chief was Suzanne Chantal who was a women's right activist. Its target audience was women who were from the lower-middle and middle classes. Cairn
A cairn is a man-made pile (or stack) of stones raised for a purpose, usually as a marker or as a burial mound. The word ''cairn'' comes from the gd, cà rn (plural ). Cairns have been and are used for a broad variety of purposes. In prehistoric times, they were raised as markers, as memorials and as burial monuments (some of which contained chambers). In modern times, cairns are often raised as landmarks, especially to mark the summits of mountains. Cairns are also used as trail markers. Valéry René Marie Georges Giscard d'Estaing (, , ; 2 February 19262 December 2020), also known as Giscard or VGE, was a French politician who served as President of France from 1974 to 1981.
