Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School
Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School (french: École secondaire Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau, commonly known as PETHS, PET, or Trudeau) is a public, bilingual English and French-immersion secondary school in Markham, Ontario. It was named in honour of the 15th Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honourable Pierre Elliott Trudeau. History Construction of Pierre Elliott Trudeau HS commenced in June 2001 and opened the following September 2002 with 500 students in grade 7, 8, 9 and 10. The grade 7 and 8 students were from Castlemore Public School, a designated feeder school, and were segregated from the high school students. Bur Oak Avenue
A bur (also spelled burr) is a seed or dry fruit or infructescence that has hooks or teeth. The main function of the bur is to spread the seeds of the bur plant, often through epizoochory. The hooks of the bur are used to catch on to for example fur or fabric, so that the bur, which contain seeds, then can be transported along with the thing it attached itself to. Another use for the spines and hooks are physical protection against herbivores. Their ability to stick to animals and fabrics has shaped their reputation as bothersome. Bill Hogarth Secondary School
Bill Hogarth Secondary School is a public high school in Markham, Ontario, Canada operated by the York Region District School Board. It opened in November 2017 for students in grades 9 and 10, some of whom were transferred from Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School. It offers a French immersion track in addition to the English curriculum. It is located at the intersection of Bur Oak Avenue and Almira Avenue. The school is named after Bill Hogarth, a former teacher and director of the York Region District School Board. Construction of the school was delayed by rain from April to July 2017, necessitating the school's opening being delayed from September to November 2017. The Flato Markham Theatre is a public arts complex located at 171 Town Centre Boulevard in the city of Markham, Ontario, Canada. MusicFest Canada
MusicFest Canada, originally established as the Canadian Stage Band Festival (CSBF), is a national educational music festival in Canada. It was founded in 1972 by Robert Richmond (the founding president), Gary Wadsworth, and Paul Miner. The CSBF added vocal and concert band components in 1981 and 1985, respectively. The name was changed to MusicFest Canada, in 1987, embracing the instrumental jazz, concert band and choral/vocal jazz divisions. In 2012, in partnership with the National Arts Centre, they added a 4th orchestra/strings division. MusicFest Canada is an invitation-only event. Carl Hilding "Doc" Severinsen (born July 7, 1927) is an American retired jazz trumpeter who led the NBC Orchestra on ''The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson''. Early life Severinsen was born in Arlington, Oregon, to Minnie Mae (1897–1998) and Carl Severinsen (1898–1972). He was nicknamed Doc after his father, the only dentist in Arlington, who was born in Germany to a Danish father and a Swiss mother. Severinsen's father played violin and wanted him to play it as well, but Severinsen wanted to play trombone. Because his arms were not long enough for trombone, and the small Arlington music store had none available, he settled for the cornet. A neighbor gave him some help on how to play, while his father, tobacco in mouth, instructed him to spit out the notes like spitting tobacco. His mother threatened to spank him if he didn't practice. Frank Ticheli
Frank Ticheli (born January 21, 1958) is an American composer of orchestral, choral, chamber, and concert band works. He lives in Los Angeles, California, where he is a Professor of Composition at the University of Southern California. He was the Pacific Symphony's composer-in-residence from 1991 to 1998, composing numerous works for that orchestra. A number of his works are particularly notable, as they have become standards in concert band repertoire. Biography Ticheli was born in Monroe, Louisiana. He graduated from L.V. Samuel Hazo
Samuel Robert Hazo (born 1966) is an American composer, primarily of music for concert band. Biography Hazo is the son of the poet and playwright Samuel John Hazo and his wife, Mary Anne. After elementary and secondary schooling in the Upper St. Clair School District, he gained a bachelor's degree in music education and a master's in education from Duquesne University. He taught music in the Upper St. Clair School District. Hazo retired from teaching in 2006. He lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his wife and children. Career Hazo began composing aged 30, and had his first composition published aged 35. In 2001, he received the National Band Association Merrill Jones Award for the best high school wind symphony composition. In 2003, he received the William D.
