Pierre Cogan
Pierre Cogan (10 January 1914 – 5 January 2013) was a French professional cyclist who competed between the 1930s and the 1950s. Biography A professional from 1935 to 1951, Cogan notably won the Grand Prix de Plouay in 1936 and the Grand Prix des Nations (the unofficial World Time Trail Championship) in 1937. He has the distinction of being among the best of the Tour de France riders both before and after the Second World War. He was the 11th in the 1935 Tour de France and still 7th in 1950. He rode his last Tour de France in 1951 where he finished 19th. Auray
Auray (; br, An Alre, or simply ) is a commune in the Morbihan department, administrative region of Brittany, northwestern France. Inhabitants of Auray are called ''Alréens'' (French) and ''Alreiz'' (Breton). Geography The city is surrounded by the communes of Crac'h to the south and the west, Brech to the north and Pluneret to the east. Grand Prix De Plouay
The Bretagne Classic, also called Bretagne Classic Ouest–France, is an elite cycling classic held annually in late summer around the Breton village of Plouay in western France. The race was originally named Grand–Prix de Plouay and, from 1989 to 2015, GP Ouest–France. It was included in the inaugural UCI ProTour in 2005 and in 2011 in its successor, the UCI World Tour. The 1935 Tour de France was the 29th edition of the Tour de France, taking place from 4 to 28 July. It consisted of 21 stages over . Although the French team was favourite, Belgian Romain Maes took the lead in the first stage, and never gave it away. Halfway the race, Romain Maes' biggest threat, Antonin Magne, had to abandon after he was hit by a car. In the eighth stage, Spanish cyclist Francisco Cepeda fell while he was descending at high speed, and died while he being transported to the hospital. Innovations and changes This was the first Tour that had a stage finish and start in a city that was not in France, when Geneva was visited in the fifth stage.
