Pierre-Michel Auger
Pierre Michel Auger (born January 11, 1963) is a Canadian politician, who was a Member of the National Assembly for the electoral district of Champlain from 2007 to 2008 and again since 2014. Born in Shawinigan, Quebec, Auger holds a bachelor's degree from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières in business administration and did additional courses in a master's degree program in applied sciences and industrial safety and health. Prior to his election, Auger taught at Collège Laflèche in Trois-Rivières, and was also a coordinator at the same college in tourism and hotel management. He was also the owner of a local snow removal company, a hockey coach for several local clubs in several divisions and a member of the Association des restaurateurs du Québec and the Association des hôteliers du Québec. Shawinigan () is a city located on the Saint-Maurice River in the Mauricie area in Quebec, Canada. It had a population of 49,349 as of the 2016 Canadian census. Shawinigan is also a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and census division (CD) of Quebec, coextensive with the city of Shawinigan. Its geographical code is 36. Shawinigan is the seat of the judicial district of Saint-Maurice. 2008 Quebec General Election
The 2008 Quebec general election was held in the Canada, Canadian Provinces and territories of Canada, province of Quebec on December 8, 2008. The Quebec Liberal Party, under incumbent Premier Jean Charest, was re-elected with a majority government, marking the first time since the 1950s (when the Union Nationale (Quebec), Union Nationale of Maurice Duplessis won four consecutive elections) that a party or leader was elected to a third consecutive mandate, and the first time for the Liberals since the 1930s, when Louis-Alexandre Taschereau was Premier. The 2008 election also marked the first time that Québec solidaire won a seat. In parliamentary systems, politicians are said to cross the floor if they formally change their political affiliation to a different political party than which they were initially elected under (as is the case in Canada and the United Kingdom). In Australia though, this term simply refers to Members of Parliament (MPs) who dissent from the party line and vote against the express instructions of the party whip while retaining membership in their political party (at least for the time being). Voting against party lines may lead to consequences such as losing a position (e.g., as minister or a portfolio critic) or being ejected from the party caucus. While these practices are legally permissible in most countries, crossing the floor can lead to controversy and media attention. André Riedl
André Riedl (October 10, 1940 - April 5, 2023) was a politician from Quebec, Canada. He was a Member of the National Assembly for the electoral district of Iberville from 2007 to 2008. Born in the Saint-Henri neighbourhood in Montreal on October 10, 1940, Riedl went on a training course with the Canadian Forces in 1957. He was later for nine years the president of BOC Gaz Canada, a gas and equipment supplier. He also did international public speaking and was involved in the Missisquoi and Magog-Orford Chamber of Commerce. He once said that "unions are a necessary evil". Riedl was first elected in the 2007 election as a member of the Action démocratique du Québec (ADQ) with 42% of the vote. The Parti Québécois (; ; PQ) is a sovereignist and social democratic provincial political party in Quebec, Canada. The PQ advocates national sovereignty for Quebec involving independence of the province of Quebec from Canada and establishing a sovereign state. 2007 Quebec General Election
The 2007 Quebec general election was held in the Canadian province of Quebec on March 26, 2007 to elect members of the 38th National Assembly of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party led by Premier Jean Charest managed to win a plurality of seats, but were reduced to a minority government, Quebec's first in 129 years, since the 1878 general election. The Action démocratique du Québec, in a major breakthrough, became the official opposition. The Parti Québécois was relegated to third-party status for the first time since the 1973 election.
