Anna Pieri Brignole-Sale (1765–1815) was a Sienese noble and court official. She was a supporter of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, and became a lady-in-waiting to his second wife, Marie Louise of Austria. Life Anna Pieri was born in 1765. She was described as a lively and cultivated Sienese patrician. She married the Genoese aristocrat Anton Giulio II Brignole-Sale in 1786. Her husband came from an old family of Genoa that had given '' doges'' to the Republic of Genoa including Giovanni-Francesco Brignole Sale (1635–36) and Gian-Francesco Brignole Sale II (1746–47). They lived in an apartment on the top floor of the Palazzo Rosso in Genoa, where she hosted Enlightenment intellectuals of the day in her salon. Anna Pieri's husband Anton-Giulio died in 1802. Louis Arthur Raymond Pieri (February 23, 1897 – June 16, 1967) was an American basketball and ice hockey executive and coach. Ice hockey In 1929 he was named general manager of the Providence Reds. The team became a charter member of the American Hockey League in 1936. Under his leadership, the Reds won eight AHL division titles and four Calder Cup championships (1938, 1940, 1949, 1956). The American Hockey League presents the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award annually to its outstanding coach. Pieri was inducted into the American Hockey League Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018. Basketball During the 1918–19 season, Pieri was the head coach of the Brown Bears men's basketball team. Mario Pieri (22 June 1860 – 1 March 1913) was an Italian mathematician who is known for his work on foundations of geometry. Biography Pieri was born in Lucca, Italy, the son of Pellegrino Pieri and Ermina Luporini. Pellegrino was a lawyer. Pieri began his higher education at University of Bologna where he drew the attention of Salvatore Pincherle. Obtaining a scholarship, Pieri transferred to ''Scuola Normale Superiore'' in Pisa. There he took his degree in 1884 and worked first at a technical secondary school in Pisa. When an opportunity arose at the military academy in Turin to teach projective geometry, Pieri moved there and, by 1888, he was also an assistant instructor in the same subject at the University of Turin. By 1891, he had become ''libero docente'' at the university, teaching elective courses.
