Pier Giacomo De Nicolò
Pier Giacomo De Nicolò (11 March 1929 – 3 April 2021) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See, including stints as Apostolic Nuncio in Costa Rica, Syria, and Switzerland. Biography Pier Giacomo De Nicolò was born in Cattolica in the Province of Rimini on 11 March 1929. He was ordained a priest on 12 April 1952. To prepare for a diplomatic career he entered the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in 1956. On 14 August 1984, Pope John Paul II named him a titular archbishop and Apostolic Nuncio to Costa Rica. The Holy See ( lat, Sancta Sedes, ; it, Santa Sede ), also called the See of Rome, Petrine See or Apostolic See, is the jurisdiction of the Pope in his role as the bishop of Rome. Cattolica
Cattolica (; rgn, Catòlga) is a town and ''comune'' in the Province of Rimini, Italy, with 16,233 inhabitants as of 2007. History Archaeological excavations show that the area was already settled in ancient Rome, Roman times. Cattolica rose as a resting place for pilgrims who traveled the Bologna-Ancona-Rome route, on their way to the sanctuary of Loreto (AN), Loreto or to St. Peter's in Rome. In 1500 it counted more than twenty taverns and inns. Only from the second half of the 19th century did the fishing industry became relevant in the economy of the town. One of the first notable visitors to Cattolica's beach was Lucien Bonaparte, brother of the French Emperor, who preferred it to noisy Rimini, in 1823. The town became an independent commune in 1896. Mariano de Nicolò (22 January 1932 – 11 April 2020) was an Italian Roman Catholic bishop. De Nicolò was born in Cattolica, Italy, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1955. He served in several offices with the Roman Curia. He served as a Papal Master of Ceremonies for the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff from 1967 to 1984 and as Undersecretary of Pontifical Council for the Interpretation of Legislative Texts from 1984 to 1989. Agostino Casaroli (24 November 1914 – 9 June 1998) was an Italian Catholic priest and diplomat for the Holy See, who became Cardinal Secretary of State. He was the most important figure behind the Vatican's efforts to deal with the persecution of the Church in the nations of the Soviet bloc after the Second Vatican Council.
