Pieksämäki Railway Station
The Pieksämäki railway station is located in the town of Pieksämäki, Finland. The station has been in use since the track to Savonia (historical province), Savonia was built in 1889. History In the 1880s, the village of Pieksämäki was located west of the current site of the town at ''Tienristi'', currently known as ''Yläristi'', and so the people of the municipality would have wanted the track to go west of Pieksänjärvi. However, because of cost reasons, in 1885 the government decided to build the track east of the lake, bringing the station a couple of kilometres east of the village, in the middle of an uninhabited swamp. The first station building was very modest. The stations were divided into five classes in order of importance, with class 1 being the most important; originally, Pieksämäki was of class 4 station. Oulu Railway Station
The Oulu Railway Station is located in the centre of Oulu, Finland, in the city district of Vaara. All trains are operated by VR. Nearby is the Oulu bus station for long-distance buses. The railway station was built in 1886 when the Ostrobothnia railway line reached Oulu. The railway from the south to Oulu was electrified in 1983, using overhead electric wires at 25 kV. The electrification northwards from Oulu to Rovaniemi was not completed until 2004. In 2006 the railway from Oulu to Iisalmi was also electrified. The fastest trains from Oulu to Helsinki are operated by VR's Pendolino trains. Kajaani Railway Station
The Kajaani railway station was built from 1904 to 1905, when the railway from Iisalmi to Kajaani was completed as an extension to the Savonia railway. The station building was designed by Gustaf Nyström. This Jugend-style building has been called the most beautiful station building in Finland. Services Kajaani is served by train services that travel via the Savonia railway up to Kajaani. Some of them terminate at Kajaani, while some continue via Kontiomäki to Oulu. Savonia Railway
The Savo railway (; ) is a five-foot-gauge (1,524 mm) railway in Finland. Beginning at Kouvola, it connects southern Finland with the eastern regions of South Savo and North Savo via the cities of Pieksämäki, Kuopio and Iisalmi. History Plans to build a railway through Savo began in the 1870s. The alignment of the line was controversial and several different versions were proposed. Initially, the construction of a west–east line was proposed, but soon a south–north alignment was settled on. Suolahti
Suolahti is a former town and municipality of Finland. It is located next to Lake Keitele in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Central Finland region. Suolahti was merged into Äänekoski together with Sumiainen in 2007. History The village was initially known as Paadentaipale; the first mentions of the current name come from are from the 16th century. The opening of the railroad in 1898 industrialized Suolahti and increased the waterborne traffic on Keitele, for which Suolahti provided a railway harbour at its south end.
