Phaffomyces
''Phaffomyces'' is a genus of fungi within the Saccharomycetales order. It is placed within the Pichiaceae fungi family. The genus name of ''Phaffomyces'' is in honour of Herman Jan Phaff (1913–2001), who was a scientist who specialised in the ecology of yeast. The genus was circumscribed by Yuzo Yamada in Bull. Fac. Agric. Shizuoka Univ. vol.47 on page 30 in 1997. Nakazawaea
''Nakazawaea'' is a genus of yeast in the order Saccharomycetales. The relationship of this taxon to other taxa within the order is not fully unknown (''incertae sedis''). In 2022, DNA analysis of Saccharomycotina yeasts noted that ''Peterozyma toletana'', ''Peterozyma tannophilus'' and ''Nakazawaea holstii'' are in a monophyletic sister clade to the Pichiaceae family. Originally, a monotypic genus containing the single species ''Nakazawaea holstii'' but ''Nakazawaea siamensis'' was added in 2011. With further others added later. The genus name of ''Nakazawaea'' is in honour of Dr. Ryoji Nakazawa, who was a Japanese microbiologist and Director of the Institute for Fermentation, Osaka, Japan, in recognition of his contributions to yeast taxonomy. The genus was circumscribed by Yuzo Yamada, Kojiro Maeda and Kozaburo Mikata in Biosc., Biotechn. Biochem. vol.58 (Issue 7) on page 1256 in 1994. Species As accepted by GBIF; * ''Nakazawaea ambrosiae'' * ''Nakazawaea anatomiae'' * ' ...

Pichia
''Pichia'' (''Hansenula'' and ''Hyphopichia'' are obsolete synonyms) is a genus of yeasts in the family Pichiaceae with spherical, elliptical, or oblong acuminate cells. ''Pichia'' is a teleomorph, and forms hat-shaped, hemispherical, or round ascospores during sexual reproduction. The anamorphs of some ''Pichia'' species are ''Candida (genus), Candida'' species. The asexual reproduction is by multilateral budding. The genus name of ''Pichia'' is in honour of Pico Pichi (1862-1933), who was an Italian botanist and Professor of natural history and plant pathology at a viticulture school in the town of Conegliano in the Province of Treviso. The genus was circumscription (taxonomy), circumscribed by Emil Christian Hansen in Centralbl. Bakteriol., 2. Abt., 12 on pages 533-538 in 1904. Lactose is neither fermented nor assimilated by these species. The behaviour with regard to other carbohydrates is dependent on the different species. Nitrate is always assimilated. More than 100 spec ...

Species in the family have a cosmopolitan distribution, and are present in a wide variety of habitats, especially those with a plentiful supply of carbohydrate sources. The family contains the species ''Saccharomyces cerevisiae'', perhaps the most economically important fungus. Genus
Genus ( plural genera ) is a taxonomic rank used in the biological classification of extant taxon, living and fossil organisms as well as Virus classification#ICTV classification, viruses. In the hierarchy of biological classification, genus comes above species and below family (taxonomy), family. In binomial nomenclature, the genus name forms the first part of the binomial species name for each species within the genus. :E.g. ''Panthera leo'' (lion) and ''Panthera onca'' (jaguar) are two species within the genus ''Panthera''. ''Panthera'' is a genus within the family Felidae. The composition of a genus is determined by taxonomy (biology), taxonomists. The standards for genus classification are not strictly codified, so different authorities often produce different classifications for genera. There are some general practices used, however, including the idea that a newly defined genus should fulfill these three criteria to be descriptively useful: # monophyly – all descendants ...
