Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University
Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University (PSRU.) is a university in Phitsanulok Province, Thailand. The institute was upgraded to a university on 14 June 2004. History The university was first established in 1926 as a teacher training school under the Royal Thai government's Primary School Act of 1921. King Rama VII bestowed the name Phitsanuwittayayon School and attended the opening on 7 January 1926, accompanied by Queen Ramphaiphanni. The school offered two years of training to Thai students who desired to become teachers in government schools. A separate women's teacher training institution opened in 1933, and in 1956 both were combined to create Pibulsongkram Teachers College, named for then Prime Minister Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram. The teachers college began offering a bachelor of education degree in 1976. In 1981 it moved from its original sites on the Nan River to a new campus outside the city in Thung Thalaykaew. Prajadhipok ( th, ประชาธิปก, RTGS: ''Prachathipok'', 8 November 1893 – 30 May 1941), also Rama VII, was the seventh monarch of Siam of the Chakri dynasty. Queen Rambai Barni ( th, รำไพพรรณี, , ), formerly Princess Rambai Barni Svastivatana ( th, รำไพพรรณี สวัสดิวัตน์, ; born 20 December 1904 – 22 May 1984), was the wife and queen consort of King Prajadhipok of Thailand, Siam. The Nan River ( th, แม่น้ำน่าน, , ) is a river in Thailand. It is one of the most important tributaries of the Chao Phraya River. Geography The Nan River originates in the Luang Prabang Range, Nan Province. The provinces along the river after Nan Province are Uttaradit, Phitsanulok and Phichit. The Yom River joins the Nan River at Chum Saeng District, Nakhon Sawan Province. Rajabhat University System
The Rajabhat Universities (, ) mean normal universities in Thailand. They were formerly called ''Rajabhat Institutes'' and originally formed the teachers college system. In 2005, King Bhumibol Adulyadej collectively elevated them to be universities. Many provinces have one—there are 38 total—and they are generally easier to gain admission to than the public universities (formerly the government universities). Most Rajabhat Universities offer graduate degrees, some even to the doctoral level. Enrollments have been shrinking. , students numbered 540,000, down from 600,000. These institutions are equivalent to British polytechnics that have become universities. They face a similar challenge of matching the prestige of older institutions.
