Piazza Medaglie D'Oro
Piazza Medaglie d'Oro, in the Arenella district, is one of the main squares in the Vomero district, in the city of Naples. In the square, octagonal in shape, eight streets radiate out, including some of the main arteries of the district, making it one of the nodal points of the neapolitan urban structure, crossroads and switching point of the Fifth Municipality of Naples, which includes the two Arenella and Vomero. The square is also important from the point of view of toponymy, as it is located at the center of a series of streets dedicated to neapolitans decorated with a gold medal for military valour, almost all from the first half of the twentieth century; among these Ugo Niutta, Mario Fiore, Giuseppe Orsi, Raffaele Tarantini, Guido Menzinger, Raffaele Libroia, Francesco Azzi, Teodoro Capocci, Raffaele Stasi, Domenico De Dominicis and several others. Arenella
Arenella is a quarter of Naples, southern Italy. It is on the Vomero hill above the city and was, 300 meters in elevation. Many years ago was considered a place to go to "get away from it all". It is near to the main hospital section of the city, set somewhat higher, on the way up to the Hermitage of Camaldoli. It has some points of historic interest, such as the presence of the workshop of Giambattista della Porta. Etimology According to some sources, the origin of its name is probably to be linked to the fact that one of the ancient cores of this area, Piazzetta Arenella, near the modern Piazza Muzij, looked and still looks like a small arena, where in the past they held the most important meetings, markets and civil and religious events. Michele Capobianco (Vitulano, 1921 - Naples, 2005) was an Italian architect, active in the city of Naples. Biography Born in 1921 in the province of Benevento, Capobianco graduated in architecture in 1946. During his university years he was a student of Marcello Canino, in whose studio he worked since 1943. Immediately after graduating he opened a studio with Arrigo Marseille. Maurizio Valenzi
Maurizio Valenzi (16 November 1909 – 23 June 2009) was an Italian politician. He was Mayor of Naples from 1975 to 1983. Biography Valenzi has been one of the main characters of the anti-fascist resistance in Europe. His real surname was actually "Valensi", but was accidentally mistaken as "Valenzi" by an employee of the town hall of Naples in 1944. Between 1935 and 1936, he joined a group of Italians at the Tunisian Communist Party. In 1937, at the time of the Popular Front government, he was in Paris, and supported the connection between the Tunisian communist group and the Foreign Center of the Italian Communist Party. In November 1941, Valenzi was arrested and tortured with electricity: he resisted interrogation and was sentenced to life imprisonment and forced labor by the Fascist regime of Vichy and interned for a year in Algeria.
