Piastowski Square is a large and important square in downtown Bydgoszcz, bearing several buildings registered on the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship Heritage List. Location Piastowski Square is settled north of Dworcowa Street in Bydgoszcz, Dworcowa Street, west of Gdańska Street, Bydgoszcz, Gdańska Street. It is delineated by Jan and Jędrzej Śniadecki Street in Bydgoszcz, Śniadecki, Bolesława Chrobrego Street in Bydgoszcz, Chrobrego, Wileńska and Sowińskiego streets. It has approximately the size of a 140m by 100m rectangle, with its longer axis oriented NW-SE. Bydgoszcz ( , , ; german: Bromberg) is a city in northern Poland, straddling the meeting of the River Vistula with its left-bank tributary, the Brda. Freedom Monument, Bydgoszcz
Freedom Monument ( pl, Pomnik Wolności) is a monument in Bydgoszcz commemorating both the fallen Soviet and Polish soldiers who fought during the liberation of the city in January 1945, and the return of Bydgoszcz to Poland on 20 January 1920. The monument has a shape of an obelisk. At the base is a plaque with the inscription: "'Libera Civitas Bydgostiensis'" (City of Bydgoszcz Free). On the front wall of the monument are reliefs and plaques, and on other walls, among others, stands tombstone commemorating eleven Soviet soldiers killed . History Shortly after Nazis withdrew from Bydgoszcz in January 1945, corpses of soldiers killed in the fighting for the city needed a place to be buried. In architecture, the frieze is the wide central section part of an entablature and may be plain in the Ionic or Doric order, or decorated with bas-reliefs. Paterae are also usually used to decorate friezes. In Egyptian hieroglyphs, a cartouche is an oval with a line at one end tangent to it, indicating that the text enclosed is a royal name. Pediments are gables, usually of a triangular shape. Pediments are placed above the horizontal structure of the lintel, or entablature, if supported by columns.
