Piano Sonata No. 15 (Mozart)
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 15 in F major, KV 533/494 (finished 3 January 1788) is a sonata in three movements: A typical performance takes about 23 minutes. The Rondo was originally a stand-alone piece composed by Mozart in 1786 (Rondo No. 2, K. 494 in the Köchel catalogue). In 1788, Mozart wrote the first two movements of K. 533 and incorporated a revised version of K. 494 as the finale, having lengthened it in order to provide a more substantial counterpart to the other two movements. Other arrangements Edvard Grieg arranged this sonata for 2 pianos, by adding further accompaniment on the secondo part, whilst the primo part plays the original. This attempt to "impart to several of Mozart's sonatas a tonal effect appealing to our modern ears" serves to document the taste of Grieg's late nineteenth-century Norwegian audience. Silverpoint (one of several types of metalpoint) is a traditional drawing technique first used by medieval scribes on manuscripts. History A silverpoint drawing is made by dragging a silver rod or wire across a surface, often prepared with gesso or primer. Silverpoint is one of several types of metalpoint used by scribes, craftsmen and artists since ancient times. Metalpoint styli were used for writing on soft surfaces (wax or bark), ruling and underdrawing on parchment, and drawing on prepared paper and panel supports. For drawing purposes, the essential metals used were lead, tin and silver. The softness of these metals made them effective drawing instruments. Goldsmiths also used metalpoint drawings to prepare their detailed, meticulous designs. The piano is a stringed keyboard instrument in which the strings are struck by wooden hammers that are coated with a softer material (modern hammers are covered with dense wool felt; some early pianos used leather). Elisabeth Leonskaja
Elisabeth Leonskaja (born 23 November 1945) (In Russian: Елизавета Ильинична Леонская) is a Soviet and Austrian pianist. She was born to a family of Jewish and Polish extraction living in Tbilisi, then the capital of the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic. When Leonskaja was six and a half, her parents were able to buy her her first upright piano. At 7, she passed the entrance to one of Tbilisi's sixty music schools. At 11, she gave her orchestral debut with Beethoven's Piano Concerto in C Major (Op. 15), at 13 her first solo recital.
