Piano Concerto No. 6 in D major, Hess catalogue, Hess 15, is an unfinished piano concerto by German composer Ludwig van Beethoven. It is not to be confused with the transcription by the composer for piano and orchestra of the Violin Concerto (Beethoven), Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61, which is sometimes referred to as the 6th Piano Concerto. D major (or the key of D) is a major scale based on D, consisting of the pitches D, E, F, G, A, B, and C. Its key signature has two sharps. Its relative minor is B minor and its parallel minor is D minor. The Catalogues of Beethoven compositions are all of the different ways in which the musical compositions by Ludwig van Beethoven have been organized by researchers into his music. The problem Most of Beethoven's best known works were published with opus numbers, with which they may be reliably identified. Another 228 works are designated WoO (Werke ohne Opuszahl – literally, "works without opus number"), among them unpublished early and occasional works (Cantata on the Death of Emperor Joseph II, WoO 87), published variations and folksong arrangements ( 25 Irish Songs, WoO 152), posthumous publications ( "Für Elise" WoO 59), and a number of unfinished works. Violin Concerto (Beethoven)
The Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, was written by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1806. Its first performance by Franz Clement was unsuccessful and for some decades the work languished in obscurity, until revived in 1844 by the then 12-year-old violinist Joseph Joachim with the orchestra of the London Philharmonic Society conducted by Felix Mendelssohn. Joachim would later claim it to be the "greatest" German violin concerto. Since then it has become one of the best-known and regularly performed violin concertos. Genesis Beethoven had previously written a number of pieces for violin and orchestra. Alan Tyson
Alan Walker Tyson, (27 October 1926 – 10 November 2000) was a Glasgow-born British musicologist who specialized in studies of the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. He wrote the (deliberately concise) ''Thematic catalogue of the works of Muzio Clementi'' which appeared in 1967 at Hans Schneider of Tutzing/Germany, with no following editions up to date. Tyson was Senior Research Fellow at All Souls College, Oxford, and a Fellow of the British Academy. One of his most celebrated publications was ''Mozart: Studies of the Autograph Scores,'' whose chapters detailed the study of watermarks in Mozart's autographs as a method of dating the scores. In music, a sketch is an informal document prepared by a composer to assist in the process of composition. Sketches may range greatly in scope and detail, from the smallest snippets to full drafts; concerning Ludwig van Beethoven's sketchbooks, for instance, Dean writes that they "include every imaginable state between unaccompanied melodic motifs of a few notes to thoroughly worked-out full scores; even his fair copies of essentially 'finished' works show the signs of continuing composition." Whether a composer's sketches survive past his or her lifetime depends particular on the composer's own practice and partly on posterity's. Artaria & Co. () was one of the most important music publishing firms of the late 18th and 19th century. Founded in the 18th century in Vienna, the company is associated with many leading names of the classical era.
