''Phymorhynchus'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Raphitomidae. Description The fusiform shell is thin, smooth, or spirally sculptured. The axial sculpture is less conspicuous. The siphonal canal is nearly obsolete. The columella and outer lip is simple. The anal sulcus is wide, shallow and close to the suture. The animal is blind, with a distinct muzzle into which the proboscis is retracted. The operculum is wanting. Phymorhynchus Castaneus
''Phymorhynchus castaneus'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. ''Phymorhynchus castaneus'' is the type species of the genus ''Phymorhynchus''. Distribution This species occurs in the Pacific Ocean off the Galapagos Islands (collected from the depths of ) and in the Gulf of Panama (in the depth ). Description The shell is polished, thin. It is resembling '' Phymorhynchus cingulatus'' (Dall, 1890), of a chestnut-brown color, fading to a paler pinkish-brown, with seven whorls. The nucleus eroded, the early whorls are with four or five flattened elevated spirals with wider interspaces in front of a somewhat sloping anal fasciole, more or less reticulated by narrow, slender, irregular, elevated riblets in harmony with the lines of growth, and which form on the fasciole delicate arches concave forward. The suture is appressed. On the body there are about twenty spirals, stronger at the shoulder, smaller and closer forward, the wide i ... Phymorhynchus Cingulatus
''Phymorhynchus cingulatus'', common name the ringed turrid, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The length of the shell attains 73 mm, its diameter 30 mm. The large, fusiform shell is of a rich reddish-brown. It is deepest on the columella, with a closely adherent, very thin, polished epidermis. The shell contains seven whorls, without the protoconch, which is lost in the specimen, while the outer coat of the apical whorls is much eroded. The whorls are full and rounded. The suture is distinct, not appressed or channeled. The transverse sculpture consists only of fine inconspicuous lines of growth. The spiral sculpture consists of two sorts: first, a fine, sharp, slightly irregular striation, which covers the whole surface; secondly, of revolving elevated cinguli, of which three on the periphery are more widely and deeply separated and more elevated than the others. These three have interspaces equal to or wider than th ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Phymorhynchus Sulciferus
''Phymorhynchus sulciferus'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The length of the shell attains 30 mm, its diameter 12 mm. (Original description) The fusiform shell is rather large, rather thin, translucent white with very little lustre. It has a high, regularly tapered spire of six obtusely shouldered whorls, not counting the protoconch which is broken off, and a long, nearly straight columella and a broad, straight aperture occupying about half the length of the shell. The posterior sinus is as broad as the subsutural band, shallow, slightly broken. The outer lip is thin, curving very gently to join the columella with but a very slight bending in anteriorly, not forming a well-defined siphonal canal. The columella shows a thin, narrow strip of enamel extending its entire length. The suture is inconspicuous. The subsutural band is rather broad, oblique, crossed by delicate slightly curved riblets, most distinct on the ... Phymorhynchus Clarinda
''Phymorhynchus clarinda'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The length of the shell attains 39 mm, its diameter 18 mm. (Original description) The thin, fusiform shell is white, with a pale yellowish periostracum,. It contains six whorls rounded, flattened a little over the anal fasciole in front of the suture, which is very distinct but not channelled. The protoconch is eroded. The subsequent whorls show between the suture and the shoulder five or six fine, sharp, spiral threads with wider interspaces, which arenot beaded by the concavely arcuate growth lines which are prominent on the fasciole. At the shoulder is a weak spiral ridge, followed by five stronger ones, subequal and equidistant with wider interspaces. On a sixth similar ridge the suture is wound, followed by, on the base, about thirty similar but less prominent ridges which gradually diminish in size and strength, and approximate more closely to each othe ... ''Phymorhynchus alberti'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The length of the shell attains 66 mm, its diameter 3 mm. The large, white shell is extremely thin and fragile. It consists of 7 convex whorls, slightly flattened upwards. The shell shows longitudinally flattened folds that become, at the base of the body whorl, decurrent ribs that also remain superficial. Phymorhynchus Chevreuxi
''Phymorhynchus chevreuxi'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The white, fusiform shell is not very solid. The turreted spire is fairly high. The shell contains seven convex whorls, separated by a well-marked suture. The only remaining whorl of the protoconch is adorned at the top with arched longitudinal costules and, below, with a very fine and tight diagonally cancellated sculpture. The six subsequent whorls are adorned with 4 or 5 decurrent, distant cords, narrow, well-protruding and with growth lines strongly arcuated on the infra-sutural area and almost perpendicular below this. The growth lines, crossing the funicles, form transversely undeveloped tubercles. The body whorl, which occupies 3/4 of the total height, shows 26 decurrent cords. Those located below the periphery and on the siphonal canal, are much weaker and closer together than the others. The growth lines are also more irregular and weaker on this who ...
